Question for the book readers.
Why aren't all the best scientists in the world working on a way to communicate telepathically instead of nuking a brain into space? Seems like that would be more useful and eliminate the need for Wallfacers to keep their ideas in their heads.

Because the brain is not book one and the show conveniently leaves out how incompetent governments are .

Or maybe just pass notes around like we did as kids in the classroom on paper with pencil. Just burn the paper after it’s read. I don’t see how those sophons can stop that

they dont need to stop communication, they are observing all communication.

Watched the whole thing. Very interesting. Makes you think if there are any ways to stop them.

They would still be able to see/observe them doing that and then act accordingly.

Well, the sophon can be at the smallest level and see what you are writing and there is no way you could look at a note without the sophon seeing it. Besides, if it feels you are a threat and you've figured a way to communicate then there would be a clock begin inside your head.
The fact they cannot lie can be used against them.
The fact they have a traitor among them might represent a potential ally.
The last thing the older chinese lady told the black guy was obviously very important. I would imagine he will use that to solve something.
I don't understand why the bad guys don't just start a clock in everyone's brains and not have to worry about conqureing us in 400 years.

4 episodes in and very interesting. The Salazar lady is smoking hot.

Bumping this because I just started watching it. Read the books years ago and thought the show did an astonishingly bad job of covering the books.
The main plot points are there, but absolutely no nuance. Reading through this thread really confirmed that for me, as so many “plot holes” pointed out here were thoroughly explained in the books. I also was upset that they pulled from all 3 books in season 1. I thought the show would be far better off dedicating one season per book. Though I do understand how difficult that would be with timelines/characters in the books.
Hell, the first book didn’t have the alien reveal until almost 2/3 into it. The show just came out with that in like episode 3 lol. Also having everyone play three body was kinda dumb and unnecessary.
Just felt forced and rushed. Not that D&D have ever ruined a book series before though
Overall it’s entertaining, just not as good as I hoped

To be fair, GoT was THE talk of TV for 5 or 6 seasons. THEN they botched things up after getting out over their skis when George left them without a story.

And to the normie crowd, that's what matters. And I include myself in that group, having never read the source material.

That’s fair, but you’ve also criticized some plot holes in the show that didn’t exist in the books. For instance, the scene where the existence of the Sophons and the entire Trisolaran plan was revealed straight up did not happen in the books. Why would they just reveal their plan to their enemy? They didn’t, the information was recovered from Judgement Day

Yes. Some things didn't make sense from the show.

This is a series that started out really strong, but barely had Sci-Fy show quality by the middle and the end. I was blown away by how different the first and the last episodes were.

Why are you so sensitive about “alleged” DEI?

I agree. It’s why I thought the show wasn’t extremely well done and why I didn’t like the focus on pure “entertainment”, which to me was just rushing through the story to keep viewers interested. I understand it, I just thought it could’ve been done better.

It's a running theme with film adaptation of books. Every director is terrified of doing a proper job. They instinctively are moved to change things here and there, to put their own spin on a story. And that's in the best scenario. Worse, we get those who don't respect or even hate the source...
The best book readers can hope for is the overall theme of the story is kept even if some things are added or altered.

Because it’s annoying when it’s blatantly obvious and the casting doesn’t fit the characters

Not the biggest problem by far. I'll nominate the aliens narrating their plan like a Bond villain.
