. I guarantee you these restaurants aren't buying nearly as much as other years.
Of course they aren’t. There is almost no supply.

I get it.
I’m not buying crawfish this year. I’m just not paying what they cost this year. They aren’t that dang special

According to the Crawfish App people prices are reasonable right now.

"Finally, some good news about crawfish this week. Crawfish App co-founder Laney King said mudbug prices dropped a dollar a pound this week. She said boiled crawfish average $5.99 a pound and you can find a sack for about $160. After a rough start to the season, King said the outlook has definitely improved."
“King said now is the time to visit your favorite crawfish spot because they’re at a good size and prices are reasonable.”

I bet if these restaurants offered boiled shrimp at half the price of crawfish they’d sell it all. Cooked the same, just with shrimp. You can get shrimp off the boats cheap right now
Same restaurant owner I mentioned up above down here in Needville, he’s been doing that with crawfish. He’s been driving down to Golden Meadow, loading up on a few hundred lbs of shrimp off the boat, then boiling at his restaurant. One night a week, all you can eat boiled shrimp for $20.
I took advantage a couple weeks back and filled my belly. But he’s still also selling out every night of crawfish.

Clearly this is more evidence of a vast crawfish conspiracy.
A Crawnspiracy, if you will ?

You mean a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston has to close because of a crawfish shortage?
Just substate shrimp or something else. What do they do when it is not crawfish season? Probably import them from China.

Blame the coonass dealers, not the addicts.

Well hopefully they saved for bad times. Many industries hit hard times. Crawfish are no where close to essential. All this about our Louisiana governor declaring a crawfish state of emergency is bullshite.

I mean, there have been cajuns in SE Texas for a long time.
But the crawfish craze of the last 15 years or so is crazy. Every bar in town started trying to sell them, new places started popping up out in the boonies just focused on crawfish, and then the whole Viet-Crawfish thing in Houston created a new level of demand and trendy hype that had never existed before.
A different Asian seafood boil near my house closed last year. The idea of opening a full service brick & mortar restaurant to serve seasonal food with massive supply fluctuations just seems stupid.

And Mississippi ‘ ians. Ruined it all.
Although this was a very long time ago. 55 years ago. We would pull up to the grocery store in our little flatboats and buy a 2 gallon pail of boiled crawfish for $1.15. Potato’s, corn and sausage cost and extra $.25.
That was our fast food. Tie off under an oak tree and feast. Very good times

This.
It’s become insane, and it seems these places want to start selling earlier and earlier every year. With limited areas to raise as rice and crawfish ponds, that strain on the crawfish crop is likely becoming too much.

He lost my empathy with “global pandemic”. Everyone understands that’s redundant, right?
Posted on 3/7/24 at 6:39 pm to ragincajun03
Listen, nobody is REALLY missing out about being able to eat crawfish due to price or supply. It’s a cultural thing that serves zero purpose. Normal people give zero fricks about this.

I know brooks bassler. They have ties to berwick, la. His brother was a tight end at the University of Houston. All I have to add.

They've been sending out alerts about price drops on crawfish, so they must not be doing the standard business at these prices. I like their regular menu, but it usually isn't worth looking for a parking spot there during crawfish season.
