Since when is it homeowner's responsibility to pay for street lights? Entergy is nothing

but a scam.
Some Entergy customers in the Baton Rouge area received a letter from the company, informing them about a possible “small increase” in their bills.
The increase has to do with the light bulbs that are used in street lights.
Officials said that when the old light bulbs burn out, they may need to be replaced by more expensive LED lights. That’s because the old bulbs are apparently no longer being manufactured.
Entergy officials said that part of the cost of operating and maintaining street lights appears on the monthly bills of customers.

It states in our HOA that we are responsible for the street lights. It's almost easier and definitely more convenient, as when a light goes out I call, and they are out within a day to replace.

I live in the middle of nowhere and have no street light (and I rarely run outside lights). I can't even see distant street lights of any kind. It is nice.

I pay $14/month with DEMCO for a street light in front of my house for the added security. It helps my cameras on that side of the house at night. I don’t mind it at all.

Energy asks for the world but provides nothing. They blamed the Ida damage on failing infrastructure yet did nothing to help mitigate it. As if they share no responsibility for maintaining it. A lot of this goes to the public service commissioner.
My bigger issue with energy is the power plant that they built in Nola east (with state benefits I’m sure) that was supposed to run the city in an emergency like ida when a transmission line failed. Apparently when presented with that scenario, the plant couldn’t do it, which was exactly one of the things it was supposed to do.

Who do you think pays for the Christmas lights?

I got the same letter. I like how it says “small increase “but nothing specific. How do they define small? Because let me tell you 4” ain’t small around here. Wait what?

The alternative is the city pays and you pay it via taxes, right?
Or simply your rate goes up slightly without specific fees noted
Entergy isn’t providing streetlights out of the goodness of their hearts

I called and the girl I spoke with said I could have it turned off if I want. We’ll see if they really turn it off.

Who else is going to pay for them? If you live in a neighborhood, the neighborhood HOA should be paying for it. If the pole is on your property and you do not live in a HOA, the property owner should pay for it.

I pay Entergy an extra $20/month for a LED Security light that they installed and maintain and I can have it pointing wherever I want, and they will come out and move it for me at no cost.

Our neighborhood is pretty dark, but luckily we do have a street light on our property. By luckily, I mean that this is where our kids wait for the bus and during the months where it's pitch-black outside, I like that bit of safety. It also illuminates the yard enough for security cameras to get really great footage.
I just fill out an online form if they need to service it, and they come the same day or the next. I never even think about the cost. I figure it's worth it to avoid kids getting run over waiting for school buses.

If I was her I would make damn sure it was turned off. I’d come and shoot it out with a pellet gun if I had to.

Tell us you’re poor without telling us. It’s always been the homeowners responsibility.

When I lived in the middle of nowhere in the woods I had a streetlight out front as I worked shifts that had me getting home anytime 11pm to 8am so the light came in handy to unlock the door. Was like $19/month and power company was responsible for the maintenance (including someone shooting it out).
