This could end tomorrow if the coaches simply agree not to pay players or accept players getting money. Where else would they go? College football is a monopoly that the NFL uses. But we all know coaches won’t do that. Just like the portal. All coaches have to do is not accept any player who is transferring from another school. Problem solved. But they won’t do that because, no matter what they post on X, all that matters is winning.
Saban coming out now is hypocrisy at its finest. When he was in the game he benefitted from the system and used it better than anyone. I’ll never give a dime of my money to a 18-22 year old person just to win a game. I’d rather go 6-6 than see some POS take my money and then transfer.

In the long term we’re going to have a breakaway and a union and a salary cap. It’s inevitable
Literally said this two years ago and got laughed out of a thread with like 60 down votes. Anyone with half a brain saw this coming a mile away. Too much money involved.

This is what we all wanted right? Lot of guys here absolutely love NIL.
Yeah, I have no issue with players milking boosters for as much money as they can get
I will never get in the way of someone trying to earn.
All the ant-capitalist democrats on here want to regulate NIL, sad

Some of the fundamentals of union organizing are having a well defined target company and clear employee base with some motivating grievances for the union organizers to latch on to. Practically none of that exists right now in this situation, players and recruits are gleeful about the NIL money they are now getting, the population to be organized is ill-defined and hard to communicate with, there are no “employees” per se at this time,…..So the union talk is premature at best.

Did anyone REALLY expect players to be satisfied with tuition, books, board and medical care with that much cash floating around?
It wouldn’t have mattered if players got a healthy stipend. Players would have wanted more and it would have always come to this.

There is absolutely no reason for any school to give a shite what the NCAA says at this point.
Said that last year. Stupid the Big10 suspended Harbaugh but it was just jealous opponents because the,NCAA,can't suspend, revoke, vacate or obliterate shite...legally speaking.
Its a Brave New World.
For better or for worse.

The NCAA didn't want players being paid.
Seems they were correct in their opinions on the matter.

NCAA wanted one time transfers
Seems they were correct about this as well.
Tbh, the further and further we go down this road, the better the NCAA looks.

I don’t know if you understand that all the grievance the players need is that they’re not getting enough of the value (in their opinion) they’re creating for the TV contracts these conferences and schools are signing
They may be ecstatic about NIL, but lawyers will make it their job to tell players that there’s more money out there (think of the lawyers on TV who say you don’t pay if you don’t win your case).
The creation of such a union will be what really codifies the SEC and Big Ten (and maybe the Big 12) over everyone else in college football. Other conferences as a whole can’t afford what those power leagues will be able to give players.

I don't have an issue with players getting their money either.
but you have to have some set of rules.
even the NFL has set rules regarding Endorsements.

I worked for years with Unions and I understand them along with the whole grievance and arbitration process. It is wishful thinking to believe the creation of a union is going to happen and codify anything for the SEC and the Big Ten.
The lawyers, and conference leaders, and media companies (streaming and cable)and agents, and other sharks swimming in the cesspool that is the money flowing in and around college football today all have no interest in unions getting involved to try to get their snout in the trough.

No. Network executives, NCAA, and conference commisioners have. None of this shite should even be making it to courts, but bc the NCAA is so incompetent people have no other option.
All the NCAA had to do was let players get a cut of their jersey sales and not take the money from that one Boston College (I think) football player who started a clothing company that had nothing to do with his playing career.
They had ample opportunities to give a little, instead they dared the players to go to court and now they have no power.

So who’s gonna look after the bottom half of each roster? They’re the rank and file of big time college rosters and there’s no game and no TV money without them

On the surface this looks like a reasonable question, but it begs some assumptions, such as….the low dollar NIL guys are unhappy (what proof do you have of this? This can vary dramatically team to team),……the low dollar NIL players are/will be jealous of the high dollar NIL guys (what proof is there of this?).
I completely agree that there are/will be problems with the way NIL operates in college football. The best solution is to let the free market work. If billionaire boosters want to heap money in a program that gives money to football players ,….LET THEM. If an athletic department wants to direct how NIL money is disbursed,….LET THEM, if players want to jump team to team every year and chase dollars,….LET THEM,…..if all of this angers college football fans like us so much that we want to stop watching games,….LET US,

So you’re not seeing all the dudes going into the transfer portal strictly to chase NIL?
Not to mention classes like that Texas A&M class where the recruits got big deals but you never heard about what their established stars got. That’s a natural recipe for jealousy

Why does the NCAA still exist at this point?
