He famously said, "why would I want to be governor when I can be king?" Lee endorsed Mike Foster, a Republican who came from behind in the polls to win the governorship and to serve two terms.

The late Harry Lee, who was sheriff of Jefferson Parish for 28 years, called his job “the closest thing there is to being a king in the U.S."

The Causeway wanted to make Jefferson Parish officers crossing the bridge pay the toll.
Lee told them no. You will not force my officers to pay that toll.
The Causeway said "If your officers do not pay the toll, the Causeway Police will pull them over."
Lee responded "if any Causeway cop pulls over one of my officers, I'll have them arrested for impersonating a police officer."

Foster was old school down on the bayou.....Funny how many Republicans cite him as a favorite when he was just a Democrat in sheep's clothing.
Democrat in sheep's clothing?
Not even remotely close to being true.
Like, so far away from actual facts it's laughable.

Hey geography major, there is indeed a Franklin parish but I do not know if it is corrupt.

People say ignorant stuff like that because Foster was a Blue Dog Democrat before joing the GOP during the 1995 campaigh.
Meanwhile they leave out the fact that mid 90s Blue Dog Democrats were MORE CONSERVATIVE than most of today's RINOs we have in state politics.

His platform was that and "bringing business sense to state government" at a time when "run goverment like a business" was a big idea.
In retrospect, we should have know that the guy who ran a government-enabled monopoly - likely one bribing government officials - was not the guy who would clean up anything or run anything like a real business.

Harry was basically an unknown when he first ran.
My Dad and had a group (Delta for concerned citizens). The first to endorse him, he never forgot that.
When people in Shrewsbury in Metairie complained about profiling he said “No problem we will no longer patrol there)
He supported his Sister

Harry Lee quotes are a great read
Back in the 90's, there was a hotly contested JP council race on the Westbank. The candidate supported by Harry lost. The winner opened his election party by telling everyone in attendance "thank God we beat the 400 pound Chinaman".
The next day the local media asks Harry if he was offended by the statement. His reply was something like - "Damn right I'm offended. I haven't weighed more than 380 in years".
