What happens if Notre Dame goes 12-0 or 11-1?
They'll get an at large bid just not an auto bid
ETA: The auto bids aren't necessarily the highest seeds as I understand it. Just in and then seeded

I agree, but if you told me going forward it will basically be five SEC teams, three B1G teams, three other conf champs, and one other leftover, that is not bad.
IMO, it makes no sense that a G5 school gets an auto-bid, or hell even the Big12 at this point. The highest ranked team that the Big12 had going into the playoff last season was Arizona at 14, and they just lost their head coach this offseason. Now, they will probably have a team in the top 12 next season, but not because they are really a top 12 team, but because they schedule will be full of cupcakes.

The third, fourth and fifth best teams in a conference should not be playing for a national title

This is a step in the right direction, but it is not good enough. It needs to be 24 teams, all conference Champions, as the conference decides before the season how they are represented. then add the at-larges. If teams such as Notre Dame or the independents are viewed as a top team they have a way in. Also, make it so no rematches can happen until the semi's.
Another possible way is to have both teams from the CCG be auto included, if a conference does not have a CCG then just the winner of the conference. So that is 20 teams, as 10 conferences have CCG, then the last 4 teams are at larges. It rewards you for winning your division.
The ONLY time the committee needs to be seen or heard from is on Selection Day. You can play the first round at home, then use the New Years 6 and 2 major bowls for the rounds after.

So dumb that they are doing 5 auto-bids. It should be 3 or 4 at most. Realistically it should be zero.
Then it's a pure invitational and not a real playoff. Win conference if you want in and schedule tougher if you can't win the conference. Penalizing the G5 because they aren't P5 is what's dumb.

By-laws of official NCAA championships
Gives all teams an entry in
Allows for games to be played that are meaningful in all portions of the season
Will lead to more intersectional games
I can go on.
If you say but a 15 seed such as lets say in the hypothetical was to win the tournament
They would have played in this order if chalk holds
18 at home
2 on the road
7 at a neutral
3 at a neutral
1 at a neutral
So the 15, who right now has no shot could theoretically beat the 1, 2, 3, 7 teams in consecutive weeks. To say that is not championship worthy then I do not know what to say...

If you're not a conference champion, looks like the sweet spot is #12. You'll probably play the conference champion from the PAC 2 or Group of 5 in the first round.

this is a gross misinterpretation of what is occurring

This is the second time I've seen this stupid argument. Not sure who y'all are parroting, but who cares what you call it?
Taking the top 12 ranked teams wouldn't penalize the G5, if they have a team that is good enough they will be ranked in the top 12. Aren't you essentially penalizing the other G5 conferences if only one is taken in this stupid argument?

Yeah I’m not sure what I’m missing here.
There are only 4 major conferences
The wording suggests that no one conference is guranteed a bid, just the five highest ranked champions.
I could easily see a bad year for the Big 12 or ACC causing them to get hopped by the Sun Belt or MAC champion.

Why? If you can't be a top 4 team, you are better off being ranked 11 than you are being ranked 10. Unless the 5th ranked conference champion does not get the 5th seed.

If you don’t make it now, it means you were ranked 11-13. frick you for not being good enough if that’s where you are ranked. Means you had 3 losses if you are an elite program

Just stop there. This is NCAA football not basketball not the NFL. The disparity between teams is enormous. The most deserving team has always come out on top in a 4 team playoff. This does nothing but hand out participation trophies and ruin the high wire act that is the college football regular season

well for starters, it would be the 12 seed that gets the benefit, not the 11. the 11 seed would be a terrible seed as you would get the best non champion, which would probably be an actual top 4 team that lost their title game (for instance, UGA).
but additionally, where does it say that the 5th champion gets the 5 seed? they get in the field, do they get the 5 seed?
