If you look at the scheduling, that is NYE/NYD. Next year, it's Fiesta, Peach, Rose, Sugar. I'm guessing attendance will be OK, then no one will go to the semis (Orange/Cotton), hoping their team will make the championship.

First round on Dec 20 and 21 may not go well with students gone for break.

What are you talking about?
The regular season is meaningless for like 90% of teams. LSU loses to Alabama and the season is over. Florida or Tennessee loses to UGA and their season is over. Penn state loses to Ohio state and their season is over. You can go on and on with that.
You had to go undefeated basically if you wanted to play for the big prize.
Now when Alabama loses to LSU this year their season won’t be over. And Florida and Penn State can afford a lost or two if they have nice wins also.

So you aren't a college football fan? Got it. The no safety net regular season is what makes it great. Having so much riding on the line every Saturday make CFB the best sport in the world. If you want a shite regular season with expanded playoffs go watch the NFL

I have been to so many Saints games where we lose and I walk out like "oh well we can do that 5 or 6 more times and still make the playoffs". It sucks. And even in the NFL where the talent gap is marginal and the league forces parity, the top 2 seeds in each conference have won something like 75% of the superbowls.

I can't wait until two teams play three times in a season.

You better get your views out on this now because by the time you blink this will be expanded to 24.

I remember the days when everyone said the bowl system would never arrange their tie-ins for a 1 vs. 2 matchup. Then when the BCS ripped the power from the bowls a lot of the same arguments used here were used then to say we’ll never go past 1 vs 2 because if you are #3 you don’t deserve a shot. Then it expanded to 4 teams after 16 seasons. The 4 team playoff lasted 10 seasons.

I give the 12 team playoff about a 6 year life until we go to 24. The money and viewership will be shown to be too great to keep it at 12. By adding one more game you give life and hope to 12 more fanbases and in sports hope is what it takes to open up wallets. Sure, it waters down the regular season but so what. Fans will still pay to attend LSU-Bama in October and then the losing side will spend even more to get their revenge in December. It’s gonna be awesome!

I hate the idea of neutral site quarterfinal games. Too much traveling. You're asking fans to travel to 3 different locations that'll be spread all over the country in the span of 3 weeks for teams that make the title game.

Don't forget some of those teams will also be playing in neutral site conference championship games. But this isn't about the fan. It's about TV money

Yep. With conferences getting away from divisions very high probability we see Michigan and Ohio State play in back to back weeks in the next few years. Yay.

The 4 teams with byes will potentially play 4 straight neutral site games including conference championship game. Nobody wants to travel to 4 expensive games like that in a row.

Won't be an issue. Student sections generally only account for 10-20% of stadium capacity. There should be enough relatively local students to claim most, if not all of the seats. And worst case, if there's still unsold student section seats they could always open sales on remaining seats to the general public a few days before gameday. It'll sell out.

Its having the next 3 rounds all as neutral site games that I don't think will do well. Especially when its 2 teams that make the playoff practically every season and their fan base develops travel fatigue.

They didn't only have to tie us to stupid conference champions, they had to throw fricking 5 of the spots away on that stupidity?

I agree, but if you told me going forward it will basically be five SEC teams, three B1G teams, three other conf champs, and one other leftover, that is not bad.

There isn't a chance in hell there will be 5 deserving SEC teams every year.

The fact that the SEC and Big 10 are both rumored to be demanding 4 AQ spots each in the future is a fricking joke and a terrible look for both conferences.

I honestly don't think that is too crazy of an opinion to have

The big 12 isn't a major college football conference. Giving them, and in all honesty the ACC, an equal spot to the B1G and the SEC is just fricking idiotic

The entire idea of AQs is dumb beyond all recognition and the Big 12 actually having one is just the cherry on top

I just think the conferences should all be represented, and that every team have a legit chance at a NC before the season starts.

They wouldn’t actually have a legit chance though. You’d just have a ton of blowouts until you got down to 4-5 teams, and then it would still be mostly blowouts looking at the playoff results to date.

In this thread:

A bunch of people who thought 4 was plenty enough are still bitching about auto-qualifiers to a 12-team playoff.

The best 4 will be in the playoff. Don’t worry.

There are now only 3 major conferences. I can see giving a spot in the playoff to a big 12 school if they’re ranked in the top 10 but not an automatic spot for their conference champ.

Totally agree especially when it included a strength of schedule component.

I think most years the simulated BCS showed almost the exact same 4 that the committee selected
