Someone somewhere in this lineup will not be there halfway through the season.

This is basically how I feel. Everyone is playing pretty well right now, which is great. But some of that is due to the competition that they are facing. There are going to be guys that fall off once the competition picks up (Jones, Neal, and Kling last year for example). Everything will work itself out in regards to who is playing everyday by the back half of SEC play, but it likely won’t be all of the same guys that we saw today.

In all fairness, White had an error at third and I have no idea how the scorer ruled that a hit.

I’m not entirely sure we get that out even if Tommy fielded it clean but yea Tommy still should’ve fielded it. One of those plays where he knew he had to get it out quick and was worried about throwing before he made the catch.

I’m glad someone said it. Tons of question marks last season.

It is the first weekend with a new team. Great talent and great coaching. They will be scary good.

Neal hit great today, but we were facing right handed pitchers who were throwing 87 mph. Neal is going to have to prove it against elite pitching before I say he’s a lock for the every day lineup. But Jay is super high on him so he may just continue to hit no matter who is pitching.

There are a bunch of guys on this team who are fighting for spots and possible platooning but Neal is not one of them. He’s been scorching everything he’s seen this season and needs to be playing everyday.

I was impressed with neal last year even once conference play got going. Reminded me of josh smiths freshmen year. Alot of good swings and balls that almost dropped/left the yard. He also crushed homers against some elite arms last year. I think he’ll be a dude for us

Last years team was all but set from beginning
This years team has a lot more moving parts and roles to be sorted out in lineup and on mound
Last year's team had an All Star offense and the best Friday night guy in college baseball. And after him, there were a lot of questions. We lost some SEC games where we scored 10, 11 runs, because our bullpen literally could not throw a strike unless it was a meatball.

We'll be ok

I don’t think it’s premature, he just gave incredibly broad takes that could apply to most college baseball teams after opening weekend.

- hitting could be good but hasn’t faced anyone good
-pitching could be good but hasn’t faced anyone
-solid but definite room for improvement after 3 whole games…

Welllllll no shite huh?

Considering the OP, this is one of more well thought out threads. I don't think you can really ask for much more with him.

Brown will never DH over Neal/Travinski imho. Hes either your RF or 1B.

100%. If Jones cannot produce then Frey or Brown will go to 1B. Neal and Travinski will be the DH. Travinski will not come out of the lineup.

with Jones and Travinski vs LHP.

Travinski is not coming out of the lineup. Jay has already said how much he is looking forward to having Travinski in the lineup EVERYDAY.

Every time I see Neal swing the bat I get Ryan Schimpf vibes.

Maybe a game after he catches but he will be a regular if healthy.

Happy for him, went from just a dude with a Russian mafia looking team picture to team leader in the span of less than a season.
