The Day After (1983). I didn’t sleep for several days. Nuclear war kept me up as a small child. Scary stuff.

Same! My parents thought I was in bed. I could lay down in the hallway and see the TV. Fairly certain I didn’t sleep that nite or several nites after

The Blob scared the hell out of me when I was four years old. I remember being scared to get in the bathtub.
Talking about the old B&W with Steve McQueen.

That was an event. Talked about in class at school.
People think only 50/60s kids had Nuclear bomb drills...we had get under your desk drills in the 80s too...never understood the point of that...make children believe they had a shot to survive?
There's a reason they made the movie, the fear was palpable.

Fortress (1985)
I think it was made for HBO but I saw it as a kid on TV one night and it scared the shite out of me.
Takes place in Australian Outback. A single room schoolhouse gets invaded by 4 psychopaths wearing funny masks. They kidnap the kids and teacher and lock them in an underground cave.
Rachel Ward was the teacher.

For some reason my mom let me watch and rent any horror movie I wanted when I was like 5. Salem's Lot was the only one that really terrified me as a kid and I'm not much better with the damn windows when I watch now

I definitely want to cred Children of the Corn. Creepy as frick.
We need a Stephen King thread. No, we don't.

Children of the Corn. My older brother and his friends were terrified watching it so I assumed it was scary. I was disappointed.

As a kid "Witch Board" freaked me the hell out.
Probably because I was being raised by a devout a Christian mother that harped on the dangers of trying to meddle in the spirit world.

This is another one that got me pretty good.
Blair Witch...the movie was not all that scary...until I got turned in around in the woods one morning before daylight heading for my deer stand a few days after having seen it. I was a teenager but it was all I could think about while I briefly lost.

IT with Tim Curry terrified my 5 year old eyes and I was terrified of clowns for a while
As an adult I find IT hilarious and I appreciate Tims performance as Pennywise
BEEP BEEP RICHIE
This is exactly me. Took me 20+ years to get there and be able to watch it again. I still don't like clowns but I'm not afraid of them anymore.

One more "Puppet Master" freaked me out too. However, I had a natural aversion to puppet before then...similar to clowns.
