Anyone have a family member that threw their life away with drugs?

My little brother has always been a bit wayward and undisciplined. But a few months ago he got himself hooked on nitrous oxide and his brain is basically fried for life. I fricking hate him for it too.
My parents are a goddamn wreck. They feel like they've failed. They should be enjoying their golden years. Going on vacations and spoiling thier grandkids. Now they'll have to care for a fricking retard becuase he was too selfish to do anything by himself. I wish he'd have fricking OD'd so we could all grieve and move on remembering who he was before he huffed his fricking brain away.
Seeing my parents like this is devastating. They deserve better.

My cousin got pregnant and started doing crack…..she has 4 kids that have raised themselves and she and 2 of them smoke crack together every day.

Objectively, they have. It's a reasonable feeling.
With that said, is his brain actually "fried"? I find it hard to believe that after a few months it is irreversibly significantly damaged.

No family members, thankfully, but unfortunately more than few very close childhood friends of mine and some other close friends have lost their lives to drugs. I'm sure many here have the same experience. It's really the opioids that are to blame based on the friends I've lost. RIP to all of them, and may God have mercy on their souls. Amen.

Addiction seems like it just gets a hold of certain people and it turns then into just a hurricane of pain and suffering. They steal from family members that care about them that makes it hard to keep helping. Truly awful to see

That's what the doctors are saying. And when I talk to him its like talking to a stranger.

Smoked crack in a blunt with a friend once shortly after I graduated highschool. Had been drinking and really just wanted the weed.
The best 5min high of my life. Immediately wanted more and told him to start driving to the ATM for more cash and to call his dealer.
Dealer didn’t answer. I thank God often for that night…there was a high chance I was about to throw my life away.

I'd have to imagine he can improve. I mean if Steve-O is a completely functional adult, there's hope for anyone. His Nitrous uses are legendary.

I honestly don't know. I've never done drugs and don't really know all that much about the effects of different ones. I know he's always been a pothead but never really thought much of it other than he was a bit of loser who couldn't get his shite together. He claims he started the NO a couple months ago and he's a completely different person now. I don't think he'll ever recover.
It's not like he's just high or addicted and needs to sober up and get in a program. His brain is done for.

Lost my older brother to dugs at age 50 but not before he made my parents lives a living hell. The POS didn’t care how much he hurt them or how much money it cost them. F’ him!
