re: New Category 6 Hurricane Classification Proposed Due to Climate Change

The problem is that if there is any truth in the computer climate sims, they predict that virtually all of the warming will take place toward the poles. That means that the weather will become milder since the contrast between hot and cold is where weather systems get their energy.
Both the historical weather record and the geological record support this. For example, the Medieval Warming produced more mild weather while the Little Ice Age was known for its violent storms.

They will probably change the measurements to so they can get one immediately - like moving from pressure to wind speed in eh 70s.

In fact, why not 200 or so categories where each category is a wind speed? Why the middle step?
can we discuss the gender of these storms as well?

When I saw this in the paper I immediately thought of This is Spinal Tap

I think we need more to accommodate those with non-binary or black names. Oh and don't forget the tornados that identify as hurricanes.

It would best suit the climate agenda to lower the Cat 1 storms down to a nice breeze, say 10MPH. The weather graphics would be hoppin' and they might get some more believers on board.
Posted on 2/7/24 at 3:44 pm to TigerBaitOohHaHa
There's barely even any Cat 5 storms that ever make landfall as it is. What's the point of this?

I want to see what they rate Idalia in the final report. I want them to stay, and justify staying, with it as a 125mph Cat. 3 at landfall. In the initial report the max sustained wind measured on land was 72.5mph with a max gust of 86.3mph. The only wind measurement I've seen even close to a major hurricane came from that insufferable twat Jeff Pietrowski, and if he's the guy they're going to hang their "first major hurricane to hit the big bend of Florida since...." hat on.....well, they deserve any bashing they get. We've seen the NHC revise a storm up in category, let's see if they will revise one down.

The decrease was not meaningful, said Christopher Landsea, National Hurricane Center’s chief of Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch. Researchers in this field emphasize that looking back to 1900, there is no discernable trend, up or down.
Think back to before the modern era though, and the inability to view satellite imagery and track hurricane's progression. In addition to the growth of population, both in absolute terms, but also specifcally along the coasts. One could easily surmise that a few hurricanes hit the US in 1900 that nobody realized was even a hurricane or nobody noticed as it didn't hit a populated area. It would suggest that the high numbers shown on this graph in modern times were not outliers.

I was pointing out the ridiculous "need" for additional categories by being deliberately obtuse.

That is the thing with wind. All they need is one mark of reported wind and they move the needle. Wind responds to water and land masses from moment to moment. A random gust can report a wind speed for seconds and higher than the norm and NOAA move it up a category to declare it is a hurricane. meanwhile pressure has not moved.
They can't hype the pressure, but wind is like a cat with a ball of yarn filled with catnip to these jayholes.

Yeah it really sucks. We have known for a long time this would be an issue. We refused to take action and buy Priuses and electric cars, instead driving big F-250s and Tundras and big SUVs. Now we’ll pay the price with stronger hurricanes and more expensive insurance.
Gullible dolts like you are why this country is going to shite. The TV tells you trucks and SUVs in America are killing the planet and you lap it up without a second thought. But I’ll tell you what, I’ll give you your premise that “climate change” is driven by human CO2 emissions. So, even if that is true, where are most of those emissions coming from? Let’s take a look…
That’s right, it’s freaking China. We could park every single IC vehicle on the North American continent and it wouldn’t make a dime’s worth of difference because of places like China and India. You think they’re doing anything to cut their carbon emissions? So take your Prius and shove it straight up your arse.

They actually are there is plenty of info on it online. The bigger problem is we don't have viable alternatives yet
More than half of the electric cars on roads worldwide are found in China. The country was also responsible for 35% of global EV exports in 2022. In fact, Chinese automaker BYD sold more electric vehicles than Tesla in Q4 2023
Golmud Solar Park — China. The Golmud Solar Park in China is the world's largest solar farm with an installed solar capacity of 2.8 GW (that's 4x what the hoover dam puts out). It's a hugely impressive site with nearly seven million solar panels all working to deliver clean energy.
People are so quick to out themselves as completely dishonest when they post easily disproven things like 'China is doing nothing to cut emissions"

Just bring it up to 11. We will eventually get there playing this game.

And what’s providing the electricity for those electric cars? I’ll give you a hint.
China has over 1,100 coal powered electric plants and they’re building more as fast as they can.
NPR 2023: China is building six times more new coal plants than other countries, report finds
China gets 70% of its energy from Coal
If you’re wanting to reduce CO2 emissions, it doesn’t matter how many electric cars you drive when your power grid is based on burning coal.
Posted on 2/8/24 at 9:15 am to Darth_Vader
It all started with heat index and wind chill. Weather folks love telling us that it "feels" like 95 due to heat index.

But their electric grid is a mixture of coal and other sources, so the EV is still less emissions than burning gas.
Also, as I pointed out with them building the world's largest solar farm, your statement that they are doing "nothing" to cut emissions was bullshite. Their percentage of electricity that comes from coal has already gone down since that 2021 study.. Also, newer coal plants can reduce emissions by being more efficient than older coal plants.
We aren't going to 0 fossil fuel usage in any of our lifetimes

I’m sorry you’re too stupid to understand no amount of electric vehicles will make up for the fact 70% of their electricity is generated by burning coal. And they’re still building more coal powered electric plants to generate the power for the additional electric cars they’re putting on the roads. So all they're really doing is making idiots like you think they’re doing something when they’re really not doing jack shite.

The reason it seems like “bullshite” to you is you’re too stupid and gullible to understand using electric cars powered by coal fired power plants isn’t doing anything to reduce CO2 emissions. And in fact, as they add more coal powered plants to power more and more electric cars, they’re actually doing the opposite of what you, in your feeble mind, think they’re doing.
