Humans have held festive occasions to celebrate things like the changing seasons, births, deaths, and just life in general for thousands of years. Different societies have held different types of celebrations. Mardi Gras is our take on Carnival, which dates to the Romans (and potentially in some form back to the Egyptians, although the celebration was certainly different).
Mardi Gras has been around much longer than you have lived in whatever area you are trying to drive through during Mardi Gras. You getting stuck in traffic is on you. You should have known better. Use your brain and plan ahead if it bothers you that much.
Try not to be a miserable, uncultured slug. Celebrate life instead.

You're complaining about driving through traffic for a parade you didn't go to and asking why parades are fun? Even the biggest parade fan doesn't claim they're fun for people who aren't at the parade.

Hundreds or thousands of people. Tons of smells, mostly stank. Loads of pure trash being hurled through the air. Litter everywhere. Drunks and pot heads. Crime goes up. Traffic backs up.

Small town parades are great. You get to hang out with friends and family outside on a nice day and socialize.

I just spent 3 fun-filled hours spending time with my kids, wife, extended family. Got to eat fried chicken, king cake, have a few drinks and laugh and smile for a while. That’s a good time in my book.
