This is going to keep happening. I firmly believe this had a massive influence on Saban's decision to retire and I think we see a lot more college coaches head for the NFL if they get the chance. Or retire.

I appreciate the honesty and he's not wrong. Was a good coach at OSU too.

I’ll be happy to do it for only 750k.

I know some very well connected people at Bama, and before the retirement they told me just how much Saban hated the new landscape.

He was doing well there. Big loss for them

This will create one mega conference of about 36 or so top teams in the near future.

Where players will have a CBA in place and all the schools will choose to abide by one set of rules as negotiated among themselves and with the CBA. It's the only way to reign all this back in

You don’t need to be an “insider” to figure out that’s why he retired. He had commented on it publicly.

Pro football coaching provides a more enjoyable lifestyle.
With the money now in major college football programs the job security is no different than in the NFL. Coaches being fired after 1,2,3 years is not all that uncommon any longer. Worse, there’s really no “off-season” in college football. A coach has to basically recruit HS players and his roster 365 days a year. Then, if you get that guy he can constantly leverage you for more money any time because he is a perpetual free agent. Money that can’t come from the school. Instead, it comes from wealthy donors that (a) you have to constantly schmooze for the money and (b) want a say in your program by virtue of them giving it to you.
You’re going to continue to see more college coaches get out.

I don't know how you have an effective CBA with the amount of turnover in college football.

Except that's just another iteration of an NCAA-like governing org, which still can't overstep court rulings on NIL and transfers.

The allure of college for these guys is the money and power. NIL and the portal takes some of that power away and they are throwing tantrums. Eventually it will eat into their insane salaries as well
