I've been around a while, heard a thousand bands, and I am not sure anyone has matched Pink Floyd. Maybe some come close, but PF are the kings imo. (Yes, I think they are better than the Beatles).

Even if you don't like PF, you have to admit they are some of the best composers ever in the rock genre. Their music has so many levels to the sound. Even when I am stone cold sober, I feel like I just smoked a huge bowl when I listen to them.

Then the question is, which Pink Floyd? They've been so many different bands. Syd Barrett's Piper at the Gates of Dawn was completely different from David Gilmore's PF without Waters. At first listen I'm sure one would be surprised to find out that both were the same band.

Musical taste is, of course, subjective, but I agree with you. In my opinion Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time.

YES.

I personally find pink floyd kinda boring, to each their own.

I also prefer improvised music over composed music though.

I have come to appreciate them even more as im older. All of it. hell ill put on the endless river bluray and just fall asleep to it.

I put on the delicate sound of thunder stream the other morning to watch while i sipped coffee and read tigerdroppings.

They are my favorite British rock band for sure.

I currently have the wall, darkside of the moon, obscured by clouds, sourceful of secrets, endless river, animals, atom heart mother and a momentary lapse of reason.

Still need a few more.

They are near the top for me mainly because it is still the best "rock concert" I ever saw.

As with Rush, I love the singles. I don't really care for the long pieces and for the life of me, I can't understand the love for Animals.

I’m not sure they are better than the Beatles but yes, Pink Floyd is my favorite rock band of all time.

Prob the best Pink Floyd adjacent release is Nick Mason’s saucerful of secrets. Blows Roger’s redux out of the water.

Set the controls for the heart of the sun

Actually blown away.

And if you get this you got to get the full film and not just the vinyl. The effects are brilliant and the interviews are intertwined so it all flows really well.

Here is one of these days since meddle seems to be a favorite.

One of these days

quote:

Everyone arguing if David Gilmour or Roger Waters is the best live Floyd around today and here I think Nick Mason is putting them both to shame.

Their 70s run is hard to beat. Peak emotional connection between lyrics, music, arrangement, atmosphere. It’s hard to have a better decade.
