You mean to tell me that you believe there isn’t any daycares in Lafayette and surrounding areas good enough for watch your kids? Come on dude. Yall need to just admit it’s you not the daycares.

Absolutely! Both myself and my daughter's mom work full time and we don't miss anything. Nobody raised her but us, she just went to "school" earlier than kindergarten.

100% It just amazes me that men don't think their daughter should be completely able to take care of themselves financially if needed. It's not about being independent or dependent. Instead, it's all about being a partner and not a subordinate in your relationship. Also, you never know the hand you will be dealt. The husband could die or be disabled. Anything could happen. I am a widow. I have other friends who lost their husband in their 40s or 50s. Some of them are really struggling because they don't have much earnings potential.
I have a daughter and I would never want her to put herself in a situation where she had to stay with a man because it was the only financially viable option.
Also though, the widow/disabled thing, that's what life insurance and long term disability are for, my wife wouldn't have to work if I died

My wife makes $160k+ and is up for promotion. One more promo and I'm going to be a house husband

Or….you make trade offs and create the life that you want.
America is awesome in that regard.

I mean to tell you that I wouldn't send my kid to any of the daycares that I visited. I'm well aware that other people have different views/opinions on what is good enough for them, but it wasn't an option for us. The MDO program that my kid attends is a nice middle ground for us and was much nicer than any of the daycares that we visited.

We both work but both have flexible jobs. I do drop off/pickup most days.
She makes a bit more than me but I’m walking out the office right now for the day so it doesn’t bother me.

So after all of the divorce threads on the OT, does anyone think that if a high earning husband divorced his wife she’d be left high and dry? I have a feeling if I ever split with Ms Squatch her income would stay the same, she’d be in the house and I’d be living in a van down by the river working my arse off.

Must be nice... but I couldn't do it... is her friend group unemployed also... seems most educated women wouldn't be cool with being unemployed sitting at home all day doing nothing
Yes her friend group is lucky enough not to have to work as well. I don't let her be friends with working girls..

We’re single income, by choice. We home school our youngest, and we made the decision to keep mom at home for the good of the kids. It’s gotten really, really hard to do, finances-wise. But there’s no way we’re sending him to today’s public schools.

Surprised at the amount of home schooled answers here.
Just curious why not live somewhere that offers good public schools or private school?

Yes, one income HH here with Upper middle class yearly income. I honestly don't know how some people are making it these days.

That's a sycamore tree I had a target set up on. Put so much lead into it that a small wind pushed it over.
And we vacation a lot. I'm never bored.

every home school parent I've met is pretty ideological and talks politics too much.

Do I understand this correctly? Your wife went through pre-med, med school, residency, surgical internship and fellowship and considered moving to LA to be a stay-at-home Mommy instead of working as a surgeon, which required God knows how much time, energy and sacrifice to achieve? That's insane. Once you start down that path, you are pot committed. If you want someone to be home with the kids then the non-surgeon can eat that bullet.
She would never move to LA. She isn’t from there. My point was that we for us to live a very nice life in an expensive part of the country close to her family requires two incomes. The trade off was moving south and she could stay at home. And yes, there is the discussion about giving up years of training to raise a family. At the end of the day, she is happy doing what she is doing and serving a very underserved patient population. I think she gets annoyed because there are a number of women in my town that don’t work but their husbands are pulling in close if not more than 7 figures.

Single source income ever since the kids were born.
She’s been an awesome stay at home mom. This type of specialization allowed me to focus on my career without having to balance it with hers.
It allowed me to advance in the job quicker than most, and gave me the freedom to relocate for promotions if/when offers too good to turn down arose.
Would do it again.
