The only way you pronounce “Caribbean” differently is when saying, “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

It doesn't matter which way you say it. It means the same thing.

I put the emphasis on the 2nd syllable like #2. However most of the inhabitants put the emphasis on the third syllable: care-uh-BEE-an.

#1 is almost certainly "more right" given how the residents pronounce it but I still pronounce it "wrong".

Cambridge dictionary with audible pronuciations

I suppose it is a bit like New Orleans.

I say the first one when saying the movie. I say the second one every other time.

1.

It's named after the Carib natives and their name is pronounced "CARE-ib", not "kuh-RIB".

I've heard both, but it seems #1 is how it is pronounced more often in recent years.

Have been blessed with multiple visits to Jamaica, on one of those trips, I learned that the original indigenous tribes of the Ka-Rib-E-In were the Caribe tribe. There are no Caribe left in the Caribbean, as they were hunted to extinction for sport or by disease by the Spanish.

*correct

and the original inhabitants of those islands were the Carib Indians, so “care-RIB ee-an” is considered to be correct.

It’s odd but when I say the movie title, #1

When I’m talking about going on vacation, I say #2.
