What’s the board’s current feeling on fridge brands?

Our 14 year old Samsung needs to be replaced. I hate this fridge and will not get another Samsung.
What brands are currently still reliable?

When our Kenmore (LG) broke and the repair place we trusted said they don't work on LGs we got a GE. That one has been good to us.

My fridge, washer, and dryer are all 2005 Whirlpool models. Nothing fancy and have been trouble-free. Gear case on the washer is cast iron and zero digital controls on any of it. I've stocked up on common wear items and some replacement parts when the time comes, the stuff made these days is junk unless you bend over for reallt premium stuff.

Wish I was more helpful but the only thing I know these days is avoid Samsung at all costs with fridges.
I know that LG had issues with being very difficult to repair and get parts for 5-10 years ago. I'm not sure if this is still true as LG has made a conscious effort to provide a more robust service network in the USA. It may be as good as others now days in the service category but not sure.
Only other advice seems to be ice makers located in fridge compartments instead of the freezer can be problematic for several brands. I have an in-door ice maker on my GE fridge and it has been OK.
EDIT: Also be aware modern GE is not GE anymore. It is some chinese company that bought the GE brand. All the GE appliances are designed differently now days.

Me too. The salesmen out there are hard-selling that Samsung since 2019 has made strides to regain customer confidence by building better products, etc.
The icemaker is the damn problem, and I should have just left it turned off, but we like ice and don't really have a spot for an external ice maker in the kitchen. I did the heater/drain/wire fix, but it quit helping over time.
It constantly ices up, floods beneath the drawer and freezer drawer... so a couple/few times per year, we chip out the ice, defrost, clear the drain...reset.
Did this the other night, and it was frozen up later the same night. It's working the compressor too hard, so it's about to give out.
I am not spending a penny on a repairman to come look at it.
Looked at fridges and I like features on some of the LGs, but I don't like the reviews.

When it rains it pours. Budget friendly brands are Frigidaire, GE, Whirpool. My Whirpool ice maker crapped out a few weeks ago. Part should be in today but I'm not happy I had this thing for barely 2 years and it decided to go back.

Had ours for almost 10 years now. Still going fine. Even keeps food cold and everything like a regular refrigerator.

I bought a Hisense fridge from Lowe’s 2.5 years ago and I like it. Lots of door storage, deep freezer compartment, good sized ice cubes, and I didn’t want a for mounted water dispenser, and this one is on the inside left. Doors sometimes don’t close all the way, but it will beep at you.

You’ll never convince me that the mom and pop places don’t get better stuff that HD and Lowe’s. I’ve always shopped a local mom and pop place that sells GE and all my stuff has lasted till I got my moneys worth

Had 16 cu ft Whirlpool for 20+ years. Just replaced with a 20 cu ft Frigidaire. Main reason I went with the Frigidaire is price.I bought from Lowe’s and got 3 year protection plan. Hope this helps.

Bought a French door style Whirlpool back in 2016 and it hasn’t given me a lick of trouble.

The only hiccup I ever had was a piece of trash fell into the defrost drain and I was getting a little bit of water on the floor. But that was not an equipment failure. Cleared the trash and normal operation resumed immediately.

2nd Whirlpool. 1997 fridge in the house we bought a few years back. Its still perfectly fine, so no rush to replace it. Had several Samsung and LG in other homes and they were awful.

5 years now totally trouble free with a Maytag. I think ours is a 22 cu ft model with the freezer on the bottom. One single door up top, I didn't like the French Door models. No ice or water in the door, but my ice maker never gives us issues. Plenty of space in it for a family of 5 and it looks great too.

I ordered the dual fridge/freezer single door Frigidaire pro units for our kitchen remodel. Very excited.
