LSU gets jobbed again.

SEC would like to keep the LSU-Bama game every year.
I want it every year, but you can't deny it's lost a little bit of it's luster. It won't be ho-hum for the next year or two, but it could beyond that.

The current SEC schedule calls for 8 SEC games per year. Each school has ONE permanent opponent and rotates everyone else playing each of those teams every other year.
There is no permanent setup for 2024. It is a one-time format until they vote on 9 SEC games.
OU and UT are permanent opponents, but SEC is not giving up the UT-A&M rivalry either.

Why would we keep A&M?
I don’t even consider them as a main rival.
Yeah this forced A&M deal just isn't working for me. My favorite rival is Florida. Always look forward to that game. bama is bama and it hasn't been much of a rivalry. Ole Miss is whatever. Auburn is a solid rivalry but I could do without it.
But they have been bound and determined to make this LSU vs A&M a thing. I understand they played a lot back in the day but the rivalry went dormant for years after 1995. LSU dominated the series though. Except for the early 90s it's been pretty lopsided. The series is 32-23-3. and that's not including the four straight vacated Vadal Alexander wins.

What I understand is that the sec wanted to go to 9 but ESPN wont pay. SEC however had the votes with needing majority to go to 9 games. Was 9 votes for and 7 against. The 7, vandy, miss st, ole miss, kentucky, missouri, arkansas and South Carolina. Basically, the ones whom need that auto win.
Then Saban didn't like his draw of lsu, tenn, and auburn and switched sides. 8-8
NOW, before fighting for the 9th game or making concessions in order for it to happens, the SEC wants to see how this coming year plays out to see what the advantage is for the 12 team playoffs

What’s the deal with playing TAMU? Much rather Ole Piss and/or Gumps.
Nobody else wanted them and we drew the short straw.

Currently, LSU has ONE permanent opponent and that is A&M. We will play the Ags every season.
Is that was the case, why would they move that game away from thanksgiving weekend?
Posted on 1/23/24 at 5:12 pm to JimTiger72
cause it doesn't have to be on thansgiving like bama tenn, tenn florida, georgia florida, okla texas etc etc etc etc

is it a done deal that LSU schedule would include:
Texas A&M
Texas
Mizzou
Miss St
Auburn
Tenn
UK
UGA
LSU would skip Ole Miss, Ark, Bama and Florida.
LSU would rotate everyone except Aggies
Why would you think this is a dine deal?

Bama game losing its luster my arse. I don’t care who’s coaching Bama, I hate them no matter what!

You all do realize that if Bama and Tennessee insist on these "rivalries", they could schedule them on off years as an OOC game. It simply wouldn't count towards the SEC standings, but they keep their rivalry alive.
Other than going to 9 games (which won't happen until ESPN ponies up more money), they will likely keep punting the structure change every year and go with ad hoc scheduling on a yearly basis.
It's all about money and nothing else to these guys, so don't expect either side to blink.

But it has been the past 10 years.. obviously the UT-A&M rivalry is higher priority

I think either Oklahoma or Arkansas have to be one of our permanents.
Every other team in the SEC has a set opponent for rivalry week:
Bama v Auburn
UGA v GA Tech
Tennessee v Vandy
UK v Lousville
Florida v FSU
A&M v Texas
USCe v Clemson
Ole Miss v Miss State,
That leaves Mizzou, OU, Arkansas, and the Tigers.
I expect Arkansas v Missouri and OU v LSU to continue.

You think A&M vs Texas is bigger than OU-Texas?
Posted on 1/23/24 at 6:55 pm to InCaliForNow
I agree. It was because of this that I predicted that LSU v OU was going to be the last game of the season before the SEC even announced our opponents for 2024.

Yes, Alabama-Tennessee could be scheduled as a non-conference game, but it won't be. That would cause each of them to play one more SEC opponent than everyone else, even if it doesn't count as a conference game.
That game, along with Auburn-Georgia, was the only reason the SEC has had a permanent opponent from the other division all these years. The tail wagging the dog.
That is not going to change. Those schools want it, the SEC office wants it, and ESPN wants it. It would be very surprising if they don't play on the 3rd Saturday in October, and then the Iron Bowl to end the season.

I want to play Bama every year.
It's the highlight of the year.
Then I want to play Florida EVERY YEAR.
I want to beat their asses.
I don't care about the other schools.
That's my rant.

Folks, there is no other ADOPTED schedule other than the 8-game schedule with one permanent opponent. The SEC has announced only the 2024 schedule because The Commish wanted to go to 9 SEC games with 3 perms. BUT, by a vote of 9-5, the SEC schools REJECTED a 9-team schedule. ESPN/$$$ messed up Sankey's plan for 9 SEC games.
Now, could that change? Yes, but you need to find 9 schools to vote for a 9-game schedule with each school getting no extra media rights money from Disney. This is not the likely outcome under the current circumstances.

Why do you believe this? They are playing an 8-game conference schedule, but who says it’s only one permanent opponent? Link?
