Yakuza is incredible. I absolutely enjoy it. I find that sitting at a sushi bar drinking cold Kirin, Sapporo, or Asahi makes me extremely happy.
All that said it's not where I'd be eating for celebratory retirement meals in New Orleans. I don't think it would make the top 35 of places I would go for a retirement meal in the N.O. metro. I wouldn't consider a restaurant without an absolutely slam dunk red wine list.

It was >$300 a person with my whisky pours…that’s celebratory to me, but I’m not a retired baller.

Yeah I spend quite a bit when I go and I think it'd be a good spot for a date, bday, something like that. I just wouldn't consider it for a monumental milestone in life achievement. I'd want a long drawn out meal with exceptional service in a nostalgic setting. One of the few times I'd absolutely be dead set on white tablecloth setting.

Fri Dinner= Antoines/Galatoires/Arnauds any of the Grand Dame Restauranst. You go for the experience and not so much the food, Although all three have decent food, Just not mind blowing.
Saturday Brunch= Brennan's for a more grand brunch, or Atchafalaya for a more laid back brunch.
Sat Dinner= Commanders Palace. Both the experience and the food will be on point.
NOTE: Make reservations now for all three meals!

True. I guess the inviter is picking up the tab and dinner IS the night. More like a bachelor party dinner where you’re focused on each other more than the actual bites of food.

I have heard from people that the main restaurant is absolutely phenomenal.
I went and had dinner in the wine bar part. I was less than impressed.
had a better meal at Jolie than at the emeril's wine bar

As for the main OP, I think you want some what traditional places, white table clothe. places that older people can enjoy. Nothing that is crazy hipster.
Friday Dinner - Galatoire's
Saturday Brunch - Commander's Palace

The wife wanted to go there, I was a little reticent given what it is. I thought it would be douche central, and my younger SIL told me I would be the oldest person there.
Was not the case when we went, but we did go for around 7:45.
They definitely went for the "vibey" kinda place. They call it a Loungerie, sort of a mix between a Lounge, Nightclub and brasserie.
There's a DJ. It was not overly loud to me and I thought it would be. It was a pretty cool vibe, I didn't find it douche. Relaxing chairs and couches and so on.
The cocktails looked incredible, and I tried my friends and it was very good. My wife and I shared a bottle of bubbs
The food was all WAY better than I expected. I can't remember everything as we shared a bunch of stuff. I remember the duck poutine fries being really good, some wagyu carpaccio, some gnocchi, etc. The escargot believe it or not was among the best I have ever had anywhere in the world. I was impressed by that in particular.
Service was actually very good.
It was getting younger and the bar area of the place was getting a bit crowded when we left. I'd suggest going earlier like me unless you want that vibe.

GW has dry aged blue fin right now. Do not miss it if you go.
I would go to GW Friday for dinner. Arnauds Saturday for Jazz brunch and Irene's Sunday night.

Arnaud’s brunch is only on Sunday. Worth going to though if OP is hanging around.

Good lineup, but a bit too hipster modern for that crowd methinks

Regional out of towners seem to love it. It’s not a bad place, but not something that’s ever really on my radar.
