NBA Trade Deadline talk

Two weeks away from the deadline, we are finding the team(s) that will bail out the Lakers this year.
quote:
Atlanta wants to find a 3rd team to take on D’Angelo Russell in order to complete a Dejounte Murray trade with the Lakers, per @ShamsCharania “It centered around D’Angelo Russell, a 2029 first round draft pick, and a pick swap I’m told. The hold up was that Atlanta wanted to find a third team for D’Angelo Russell.” (Via @RunItBackFDTV / h/t @Joe_Schmidt07)

They're getting started early this year

I really do not understand why these teams are so hellbent on always helping the Lakers.
No one should want to deal with them at all unless its absolute trade rape.
But they just bail them out every year.

It does always seem that they’re bailed out but it’s probably more just that Lakers actually are willing to pull the trigger on a trade often. Most teams sit on assets and are afraid. Lakers make a pretty big trade every deadline. In a league of conservative GMs, Lakers are the most active.

Teams could have easily outbid the Lakers on a couple of those dudes last season, they chose not to.
San Antonio could have offered Austin Reaves 4 years/$95 mil just to make the Lakers match, but they chose not to.
Teams can easily outbid a 1st and a swap for Dejounte Murray. We'll see if they choose not to.

Fair points.

Is that really what Murray is worth? One way out there future 1st and a pick swap?

The Lakers are also willing to not participate in the NBA draft until 2044 to prop up the LeBron window. It's like Stepien era Cavs over there.

Can we request phone records between the league and the Hawks over the past two weeks?

He’s definitely worth way more than that.
It would be a mistake for other teams not to jump in and grab him for that price, including for us not to

Teams just willingly help LA

The Lakers always set themselves up to be able to make trades. The Warriors were good at stacking tradeable salaries, too until they stumbled upon a guy who helped them win a title (Wiggins) and got 2 early, 1sts after that one bad hiccup year.
The Hawks have been trying to deal Murray (at a huge loss, mind you) for weeks and the market seems very lukewarm for him. So the Lakers, who only kept Russell to have a salary to make a deal like this, are there to help. It's clear ATL wants that salary dumped, though. I don't know what pick capital they have to pay a team to do it.

I dont think its that bad of a deal for ATL. Those laker picks look real juicy. Lebron will be long retired and they'll be led by a mid 30s AD making 60 million.
Dejounte Murray is overrated and the Lakers are losing their best shooter.

They've been trying to deal him for a while and nobody has bitten. I think he's an a-hole and not good enough for the level of a-hole.

Yeah agree. Think about this they paid a ransom for him and are willing to unload him for peanuts. Theres probably a reason for this.

Yeah, he's apparently not a great locker room guy and now he'll be under the bright lights of LA. We'll see how he handles being the 3rd fiddle and being blamed for all the Lakers problems. I suspect he wont handle it well

The Lakers will get Murray, he will not be the fit they hoped for, and next season at the trade deadline, they will somehow flip him for Kyrie or some shite.
Posted on 1/22/24 at 11:13 am to Balsamic_duck
He’ll fit in perfectly with all the clutch clients honestly.
