Is he vaping and drinking energy drinks?

Someone may be giving him a hard time and he’s stressed. Get him in BJJ or karate, it really is a good confidence builder.

its sounds like a reaction,, perhaps to social pressure
talk but more important listen,, if he wants to get into better shape encourage that,, but getting into good shape include eating right
maybe if that's his desire get him to a gym but most important a trainer that understands nutrition and that a 14 year old boy needs food

I lost like 30lbs sophomore year after getting friendzoned by a girl I put on a pedestal. I would suspect social or mood as cause.

My youngest son was a little chunky and smaller than most of his friends from about 11-13 years old but he was active in sports. I still remember him asking me when he was going to grow and if he needed to be on growth hormones or something like that because he was not like most of his friends. It was funny to me internally at the time but to him i am sure it was disheartening especially when he started taking interest into girls. Fast forward two years and he shot up to 6 foot and lost his baby fat and it was never mentioned again. OP just be supportive and don't beat yourself up about this but i would suggest you get it out of him through counseling or just asking him straight to his face WHAT'S going on? I raised three teens and they all turned out just fine.

I’ve seen some of the kids that text him on his iPad, it does make me want to reach thru the screen, but hell, you tried talking to a 14 yr old lately? All you hear is, it’s nothing, or no big deal, or I’m good. Seems the more I push for answers, the more he withdraws.

My son was fat in 5th/6th/7th grad and lost all of the weight and stopped eating as much by 9th. He later admitted it was because of being teased and said “I’ll never be fat again” he’s a Sophomore in college and still thin. He eats, just not as much. If your child is still healthy then just keep an eye on him.

Has lost probably 10lbs in a couple months.
Sounds like a Japanese POW camp scenario.
He’s a kid, stop helicoptering.
Just stay in touch with him in general.

Reach out to his teachers. Besides in the classroom, most of them observe and keep in the know about social issues and current gossip.

He still eats, but very little protein and nibbles on shite carbs
Sounds like a pretty typical 14 year old boy
My son went through eating a ton to eating little cycles at that age and usually was related to upcoming growth spurts. It wasn’t until he got into body building at 15 that he was motivated to care about what and when he ate.

Growing boys eat a TON! So definitely something off.
Maybe, but not always.. speaking for myself, when i was about 14, i went from being short & fat to tall & skinny over the course of one summer, literally in like 3 months i grew to almost my present height of 6’2”… BUT what happened with me is i was so thrilled with the compliments and attention from girls that i also restricted my eating.. I guess subconsciously i was afraid to ever go back to being that fat kid… that was years ago, then i got into going to the gym and now in my 40s i love to eat and could probably stand to lose a lb or two…. My point is, everyone's diferent and this stuff about what the “typical” teenager does or doesnt do is irrelevant .

Sounds like anorexia. You might want to add a psychologist into the mix.
OP said “doesn’t eat”
I thought anorexics eat, and then self induce a purge?

Is he fat or going from an average weight to skinny?

Bulemics eat then purge. Anorexics don’t eat.
Neither make sense in this thread as losing 10 lbs over several months don’t indicate an eating disorder.

this
He’s fat. Make his arse go to the gym and teach him how to eat for gains or find a youtuber that can

Waiting for neurologist, but is it possible it’s a social issue?
Yes of course. Seems like the most likely explanation, especially his reluctance to discuss with a parent.
Do you have any other kids you can ask? Maybe take one of the other kids out for something they enjoy. Then lead in to conversation about enjoying life. Then ask about brothers or sisters and what they do to enjoy life. See where the conversation goes.
