American Nightmare — Netflix documentary

Watched all three parts of the series yesterday, and my blood was boiling.
Didn’t realize the astronomical incompetency of the police and FBI out there in California, it blew my fricking mind how stupid and shortsighted those people are.
It’s a great documentary to watch, but be sure and take your blood pressure medicine.

It’s tough to watch. I expect some level of incompetence from local PD especially with a story that wild. But the conflict of interest that was permitted by the FBI in that investigation was stunning. They simply refused to follow the evidence. Frick the FBI

Watched it last night. While yes the story of the kidnapping did seem very odd and I'm sure these types of cases usually turnout to be the husband or BF being the culprit its still amazing how police and FBI who I'm sure are trained and taught about confirmation bias can still find themselves viewing cases in such a way.
They were so sure life was imitating art with Gone Girl movie plot.

People need to understand the purpose of the police force is not to protect and serve. Will it work out at times they save people? Of course. But that is not their purpose. And what’s scary is not only are they not there to serve you, as a whole, they are not of great intelligence.
The fact the detective that fumbled the entire thing branding a rape and kidnap victim as a criminal won detective of the year the same year

I watched this. The police and FBI were so bad it's indescribable. And not a single one punished.

Watching now. Just the first 30 min is a little bizarre.
The story is very strange, but if you wanted to pull off a kidnapping, just do bizarre stuff in the act and you'll buy yourself time or pull it off is what I'm seeing.
But the police interrogation is really superficial. They're bad at it. I would think that the police should take his story serious until they have evidence to the contrary.
Also, watching Aaron's testimony with the police, he is less emotional/angry/scared than I would be. People handle things differently, but calm isn't normal IMO.

I believe I’ve heard this story from “Mr. Ballens” YouTube channel

I’ll add to this by saying if you’ve ever sat a jury for a criminal case before, nothing in the world will scare you more than being wrongfully accused of something. Good lord, some of the absolute dumbest people I’ve ever interacted with. Like, can’t follow basic logic, can’t be reasoned with. So between an investigative force susceptible to bias and a decision making group full of really questionable intellects, it’s no wonder we have a real issue with locking up people who didn’t do anything wrong at the behest of actual criminals who figured out how to beat the obviously flawed system. Scary shite.

Add in a "for profit" prison industry and you'll see why the US is 6th in the world incarcerating its citizens. Only losing out to garden spots like El Salvador, Cuba, Rwanda, Turkmenistan, and American Samoa.

This right here. Judges included.

I wish they would have touched on the potential others that worked with Muller. They touched on the blow up doll for a second. Did this dude set up a blow up doll pretending it was another accomplice? What about the other people Denise heard at the cabin?

I watched it this week. Really well done.
It wasn’t incompetency, it was intentional. They made their minds up about what they thought was going on and that was it. No investigation necessary.

That guy - Mr Ballen, has some great stories.

I read a follow up article somewhere saying that they are both also adamant there was more than one person in their bedroom that night.
As if they didn't frick up enough, the authorities doubled down and insisted he acted alone.
If they really like jumping to conclusions so much, it's not much of a leap to think the Sesma guy might have had something to do with it. If I was the victim, it would be hard not think that after everything that happened. What a wild fricking story.

I somewhat understood Det. Mustard’s questioning of the boyfriend. He was trying to sift through and see if he actually killed her. But the part where he said that he was trying to find a way to make him a “monster” shows that he already had his mind made up.
The FBI stuff was ridiculous. They said they looked in to it and the investigation was proper. Even if the investigation was done correctly 100%, it’s still a conflict of interest and they should have pulled the agent.
The guy and girl are freaking lucky that the cop who found the evidence didn’t just file it away like so many detectives would have done. If she didn’t pursue it, then there would still be people that didn’t believe them as to what happened.

But not surprising. Fast forward 8 years and see what the FBI has become. This was the beginning stage of that change. The FBI is now a clean up mechanism for the rot in DC.

That and the polygraph that was performed by an FBI agent, which they later found out he lied to the defendant about the results immediately after he took the test.
Then the guy getting an award at the end of the year. LOLOLOL
I would say I'm surprised, but I'm not.

Sesma was involved. His involvement explains the apathy of the FBI and how quickly the case went silent.

Welp. I hope every American gets to watch this one.
Somehow the police come off looking worse than the convicted rapist/creep.

I saw this last night. What a wild story.
And they never cleared up why Andrea was the target. Only because Muller didn’t say? Please. Shows Sesma was absolutely involved because we was/had dated her.
