Do you like the desert?

Fort Riley (~Manhattan, KS)
Been there a couple of times. At least there are some rolling hills and trees, making it different from most of Kansas.

Fort Bragg,
Fayetteville is cool, Raleigh is nice, all the colleges there are amazing, girls for days and awesome nightlife. Research triangle is beautiful and you will feel out of place

Hey jpbTiger,
How would you preference the stateside options…Bragg, Riley, Bliss? Not heard much on Riley yet but sounds like a decent setup with KSU nearby.
For me, I grew up in the Carolinas so Im conflicted on having to go back.

Are you married? If not, Korea or Germany.
If married with kids, all those probably suck?

Ft Irwin and Polk. You will be Opfor, and will literally live in the desert…. No life whatsoever

For what it's worth, a guy in the military told me that you should list your last choice first. When he submitted his list, they assigned him to move to the last choice on his list.
I would ask some other members of the military if this happens often.
Good luck. Hope you get to go where you want.

My Air Force buddy chose Korea.
Twice.
That was in the late 80's, while we were in England.
I'd pick Germany and tour Europe on my time off.
Definitely live off base.

Order I'd put them:
1. Germany - single person, might as well explore overseas while you can, if you can.
2. Korea (Camp Walker or Camp Casey) - I spent some time at Yongson before it closed down. I loved the Seoul area.
3. Fort Wainwright - Experiencing Alaska for a bit would be great. I love the outdoors and hunting though, so it may not be for you.
4. Fort Bliss (El Paso) - never been there but several buddies seem to love it there. They say it is MUCH better than people make it out to be.
Dunno - Fort Irwin - I know nothing about it.
Nope - Fort Riley - I did some training there, and although Aggieville could be fun, the base just didn't do it for me. I was there before I started hunting so maybe that would change my mind a bit.
Nope - Fort Liberty - I hated that whole Fayettnam area with a passion

For me, in order- Bragg, Riley, Bliss. For reasons already discussed. Fayetteville itself is kind of crap but Raleigh is nice and central North Carolina is a good spot to base from to do a bunch of fun stuff. I didn’t like Kansas as a whole, but Riley is close to some decent spots with stuff to do. I did not like Bliss at all between the crime rate and lack of any worthwhile things to do outside of work
ETA- Someone above mentioned the research triangle area- and I agree, it’s pretty awesome

Easy. Go to Germany. I know it’s probably a lot different than it was in the late 80s, but it’s a great duty station.

If you decide on liberty live west of the post. Fayetteville blows. Southern Pines and Pinehurst are much better.

Absolutely horrible advice. If you list the crappy places first, the HRC bubba will assign you there and then take credit for giving you your first choice. Put your first choice first.

I don't know about now, but Fort Wainwright in Alaska was fighting high Suicide rates among soldiers at one point. It seems like you really have to love the outdoors to go up there as others have said.

Are you single or married and what is your rank and MOS? If you are young and single go overseas either to Korea or Germany. I have never been to Sembach ,but I know it is by K town and Ramstien which is a good spot. Never been to Korea ,but everyone I have talked to said they either loved it or hated it no in-between. Of the choices Stateside personally I would go to Wainwright. I have a fried there now and he likes it there.
