For Bar B Q try Demetri’s, Saw’s or Rodney Scott’s, all in Homewood. Lots of places to eat in Homewood.

Man......
There's a lot of options in that area. It's right in the middle of Homewood, Mnt Brook, and Vestavia. Anything in particular you're looking for? You can literally do anything from a cheeseburger, to a meat and three, to Ethiopian, to white table cloth from that location. Nothing iconic or can't miss in that area IMO. Just solid options.

My house?
Or SAW’s, Johnny’s (only after church on Sunday’s), or Red Pearl would be reccs.
Some people love Demitri’s but I think their BBQ is awful. Decent breakfast though.
If looking higher end, could try Cafe Bottega (Southside) or Automatic Seafood (Lakeview, not Lakeshore where you will be- neither has a lake).

Also, someone just recommended this place in Vestavia but I have not been. Up the mountain from where you will be but less than 10 min drive.

If you’re in the mood for pizza, Troup’s is near Samford and is super.

Not white table cloth/high end.
We will be in town for an indoor track meet at the university and would like to grab a quality lunch relatively nearby.
Always looking for local good food, while avoiding the fast food type places.
(sandwiches, salads, seafood, pizza, burgers, craft beer type places)
most of the above recs have checked those boxes

The Battery, Saw's BBQ, Johnny's Restaurant are all in Homewood, very good, and easy to get to from Samford.
Brick & Tin, Gilchrist, and Davenport's Pizza are in Mtn Brook village. Equally easy to get to from Samford.

My two favorite sandwich places are within reasonable driving distance.
Mr P's in Bluff Park
Diplomat Deli in Vestavia

Troup's in Cahaba Heights. The owners graduated Auburn with my wife and I. Great people, great pizza.

Foodbar in Cahaba Heights has the best burger in Bham IMO, but they are only open for dinner
You're in a great part of town and will have little to worry about.

Been to the Palm and Pig once. Really enjoyed what I had. Wife and I plan on going back, but we have so many options in Cahaba Heights that it's hard for us to get over there. Hope they do well as the last couple of things that went in there didn't work out.

Didn't they also open another Davenport's location in Vestavia, over by the movie theater or am I making that up? Plenty of stuff kind of right around there that is simple depending on how much time they end up having.

My wife is a Brookie so she has to have Davenports every so often. The only way I can eat that pizza is if they burn it (extra crispy). Otherwise, it’s a soggy mess that the locals love, but not anyone else. I caution sending people there. Troup’s is a much better play. Tortuga’s being our favorite, but not close to the OP’s location.
ETA: The owner of Troup’s used to be the chef at Slice.

all these recommendations look amazing.
would not have expected anything less from this board.
I think my group is leaning towards Troup's pizza. (they have craft beer too, so I'm fine with that)
the burgers at WhiskeyFoxTrot look delicious
the paninis at Brick&Tin
and everything at the Battery
I'll update next week... thanks

Yes, yes, I know you don't like Davenports. You make that very clear every time it gets brought up about Bham pizza.

You can't go wrong with any of these options. All are very good.
ETA: Depending on when y'all are going, Battery has a limited brunch menu as well, in addition to their main menu, that has been very good.

Oteys, saws, local 39, soho social, the battery are all solid options in Homewood.

Slim’s Pizzeria in Mountain Brook is a very cool atmosphere with fantastic wood-fired oven pizzas.
