You mentioned pvc for water lines but that’s unusual. Are you sure they’re pvc?

Plenty of CPVC supply line in the wild. CPVC is PVC that is chlorinated to make it more rigid and heat resistant than PVC. Unless or until the CPVC gets UV exposure or gets really old, both increase the brittleness.

It depends but metals will cool quickly and depending on the pipe, they’ll split easier.

Copper is more likely to fail in freezing temps than CPVC or PEX. Part is the issue might be CPVC and PEX being more naturally insulated (Cu has a thermal conductivity coefficient of ~400 W/m•K which is why it makes good pots and pans). From the tests I have seen PEX is the best choice for freeze damage prevention and PEX A is the better of the two types because the expansion fittings offer a more reliable connection along with being more ductile.

We have a wood burning fireplace but I am allergic to burning wood. Think about putting in propane gas logs. Water heater and heat strips would be easy also since basementis easily accessible near fireplace.

I am allergic to wood smoke also. I built an entertainment center with the propane fireplace in the center of it. I have a house unlike most in Bella Vista, I don't have a basement. The heating system is in the attic.

I have also been putting out extra food for the birds. I have been putting out extra corn for deer also. There were seven deer in my yard a few days ago. As the snow melts I will cut back on the bird and deer feedings.

A lot of the houses in my area have sloped lots with a basement type area under them. Their exposed drain pipes have been freezing along with some none insulated water pipes and p-traps freezing also. The temperatures got down to -7 on several days with the high temperature only being in the single digits.

North MS is basically closed

The entire thing

I-55 is decent with a lane open for most of the week but slow traffic and that’s changed since the freezing rain this morning as wrecks have halted it

Everything else. Fricked. All week long.

Can’t really get in or out of Oxford on highway 6 as the hills are a mess .. most of the streets are an Ice rink in town.

I haven’t left since Sunday afternoon.

My capacitor went out in my heater.

HVAC can’t get here to work on it.

It’s 42 degrees in my house .

Morale is low.

We finally topped freezing just before 10am, and we're up to 36° now. It almost feels nice out.

More rain this evening/tonight, then back into the deep freeze. We have a Winter Weather Advisory until 6am tomorrow. Tomorrow: 32/10 and Saturday: 23/9.

Monday we have a chance to hit 50° and put all this shite behind us.

My 125 year old camp house has CPVC and rarely has issues. But when we do it is a pain in the arse to fix. House foundation is 2 blocks high and with the ductwork and plumbing drains, getting to where something breaks is always difficult.

I wont be back there until Sunday but when I go Ill take a bunch of fittings and hopefully it wont be too bad. Last years deep freeze caused no problems so maybe ill luck out again.

Damn woman losing it on Fb Bc they are out of bottled water and without bottled water they can't drink water or coffee! Its HORRIBLE! Even worse she's actually having to parent her two kids!!

It's one thing to be freaking out when you are dealing with some shite like Lawyered is but these other people need to wake the frick up. If you got heat, running water, no frozen pipe, shelter, and relative wellness you oughta be able to make it a few days without losing it

What is the saying something to the effect of society is 2 days without food from anarchy or something?

I would assume that means HWY 7 S is out of the question. Might have less hills until Water Valley though.

Sounds awful either way.

2016 was similar when I was living there. I could not even get my car up the hill in my driveway. Thank god for tractors and ATVs.

Y’all want the good news or the bad news first?

Well you get the bad news first. We will get another shot of arctic air this weekend:

The good news, though, is that the pattern will flip next week and many of us will see a significant warm up with highs in the 60s and even 70s along the Gulf Coast.

Me coming out of the arctic next week:

Lafayette county here in Oxford just voted in a state of emergency

Wrecks all over the place. Idiots driving through and around barricades Of closed off streets and intersections

Luckily we have electricity. Could be much worse thank goodness.

This has been just a banner week !

The good news is that it looks like LA will see drought busting rain over the next couple weeks.

The bad news is that it looks like LA will see drought busting rain over the next couple weeks.

There's been.....moisture (using vague terms cause I'm not exactly sure what it is) falling heavier and heavier here the last couple hours. Roads are pretty clear but soaked.....if temps drop a couple of degrees it will be on as far as travel. Thunderdome type shite

Why people don't keep at least a few days of staples on hand at all times is beyond me. It may not be what I "want" at the time, but at least it will keep us fed.
Looks like I am going to run out of milk before I can get to the store, but if that's all I have to bitch about then I'm in fine shape.

shite.....roads here are still rough, but passable. I was out earlier for a bit, and 25mph was tops. Saw one truck in the ditch and another get squirrelly.

Meanwhile in Huntsville this morning:
