Where are all DiNardo's national championships?

I don't want to disparage the coach but the history revising that's going on around here is ridiculous, so maybe this is a good sanity check.
If we are going to change the history books to claim any improvement to LSU's prominence since 1999 is because of DiNardo not Saban, I'd think a coach with that sort of transformative ability would have a bunch of championships to show for it? Hell, why didn't Alabama recognize this? You'd think a school with such a football history would know, wouldn't you? How did an "imposter" like Saban manage to do the very same thing at Alabama that he was credited for at LSU if it was all a lie?

Does it matter that much to you that not every one worships Saban?

You clearly didn't live through the Curley Hallman years. LSU football was dead.

LSU has history baw!
Some of us lived through that history and had a blast during those times. Deal with it.

We had six straight losing seasons prior to Gerry arriving. Worst period of modern LSU football ever. He turned it around instantly and showed the nation what could be done here. While he didn't get over the hump, he started our awakening.

DiNardo was 7-15 in his last 2 seasons baw.
LSU has had 1 losing season since Saban was hired.
DiNardo may have gotten a few guys but Saban showed that this is a massive program. How anyone is simping for DiNardo when Saban awoke this monster is insane.

DiNardo had one phenomenal achievement as LSU football coach-- he put the NCAA's tyranny in its proper place by once again reinstating home white jerseys for the team. That made a WORLD of difference after 6 straight years of football futility in uniforms described as "purple poison."

Look at the classes of the players in the 2001 seccg and get back to me.
Dinardo got players. He couldn’t discipline and didnt put it together but there was a base of talent for Saban to win some early which propelled him further

Plenty of reasons to be critical of DiNardo but I think you have to give him credit for being the first coach that started getting our Louisiana athletes to start staying at home. During that time period we were losing a ton of talent to Florida State, Miami, and others. It was a big deal that he was able to keep Kevin Faulk at home and it seemed like after that we weren't losing quite as many. Then once Saban got here we stop losing almost all the big talent.

Dinardo was a poor disciplinarian and I've talked to a number of players who did not have good things to say about him.
Putting Dinardo and Saban in the same sentence is laughable.

I do credit Emmert for having the vision and understanding the importance of investing into the football program.
However, all of these revisionist posts today crediting every one under the sun for LSU’s turnaround under Saban, except for Saban himself, is fricking hilarious.
Emmert could have just given that money to DiNardo and continue with the same investment and everything would have equaled out. These guys are delusional.
Edit: Had a typo on Emmert's name that was bothering the shite out of me.![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

Say what you want, it was exciting. Expectations were low, but we had some good players. Sometimes we would show up and win a big one, then lose one we should have won the next week. Beat #1 Florida one week then lose to Ole Miss the next week.

I do believe Saban woke up a sleeping giant within our football program. I respect him for it, but I’m not gonna worship the guy, either. He left us on Christmas Day and eventually ended up at our rival. I’m over it and glad he’s now retired. I’m ready to move on and re-establish our national prominence with our current/new coaching staff.

I understand crediting Dinardo because I lived through the Hallman years, but the truth is that any credit given to Dinardo without mentioning Kevin Faulk is only half the story. Faulk gambled his future coming here, he could have gone anywhere, but he stayed home and made it cool again to stay home and play for LSU.

Dinardo created a buzz about the program and recruited relentlessly. He was an important part of the rebuilding of the program. So was Saban.

No one thinks DiNardo is better than Saban, not even DiNardo. But no one builds a program "from scratch" that has just built an upper deck to increase capacity to 102,000 if they are a nobody.
DiNardo left a lot of talent and Saban did a great job with those guys and even better with his own guys. Saban wouldn't have won an NC in four years following Archer or Curley.

Where are all DiNardo's national championships?

There are 2 factors that led to LSU becoming a national power, and both were required.
Saban brought "the process", and yeah that was necessary. But it wouldn't work by itself.
Dinardo built The Wall, stopped the talent drain that had been happening.
1995 Independence Bowl was the fateful moment where those 2 factors met up.
Michigan State, with Saban (already getting a lot of love as an up and coming coach), against LSU with Dinardo's talent.
MSU started out hot, the Process got them a 24-21 lead at half. Talent all over the field won it for LSU, who outscored them 24-2 in the second half.
I think that bowl game was the moment Saban realized he needed talent as much as his schemes, and that LSU had that level of talent.
