After that 2nd loss, Miles ran the table then completely crushed ND in the Sugar Bowl. Skip would not fire Miles with those results.

Yes, lau had two NC caliber teams from 2007 to 2010 without Saban. Saban just showed staffers in br the way to do it. Lsu has built it from there.

Well yeah, Miles LSU record was much better than Saban's at that time.
Who fires a coach with 2 top 5 finishes in his 1st 2 years?

1, maybe 2 more. 2011 for sure. 2012 potentially.
Alabama won the SECCG 9 times under Saban. LSU was the SECW team Alabama beat out in most of those, and that doesn’t count 2011. LSU had a fence around Mobile (thanks to Saban) before he left Miami, and that doesn’t count an endless list of top recruits in La. that would have been at LSU but for Saban. Also, as has always been his luck, Saban was able to dominate the West during a period of unprecedented weakness in the East, paving the way for a NC. LSU would have won most of those SECCGs as well, if only they could get past Alabama.

I think it’s 3 or 4, but even 1 or 2 is proof that LSU made Saban not the other way around.

Probably not. Hindsight is 20/20, but LSU couldn’t get Bowden by losing in TS to FSU in ‘79. Bo Rein was a “great hire” that ended up a human tragedy. We also passed on an innovative USFL coach that won Duke their ONLY ACC football championship and subsequently changed the entire landscape of SEC Football forever. The track record before Saban wasn’t great.

impossible to say.

LSU has all sorts of built in advantages for the right guy.
Arnsparger and DiNardo scratched the surface of what was possible, so who’s to say someone else couldn’t cash in.

I can’t go from hating that dickhead midget to giving him flowers after as much harm as he did to LSU, between the way he left to go to Miami, and the consistent arse beatings with dirty alabama players playing dirty alabama football and getting all the help from the refs every time. Screw that midget. If his feelings are hurt over some LSU fans not giving him flowers he can go cry into his pillows of cash. I’m glad he’s gone.

Does LSU win a national championship sooner if Bo Rien drives to Shreveport?

It’s honestly incredible the program recovered from this. That’s at least an equivalent what if.

Everyone says Miles won 2007 with Saban's players.

Wonder who coached those players in 2005, 2006 and 2007 and got their skills honed to championship level?

I think it’s 3 or 4
Which years?

LSU wins in 07
LSU’s D was trash in 08, 3-5 in SEC
LSU was mediocre in 09, may win west but no BCSCG that year.
No one beat Cam Newton in 10.
LSU would have won in 11, no question
LSU may have repeat in 12, not certain
LSU had 2 losses outside Bama in 13, AU still wins West
LSU was 4-4 in the SEC in 14
LSU finished 4th in West in 15
LSU was still behind AU in 16 and 17
LSU was still behind A&M in 18
LSU wins NC in 19
lol at 20 and 21
LSU wins West in 22, not a playoff contender
LSU still behind OM in 23, not a contender regardless

So where are the extra NCs outside 11 and maybe 12 if Saban doesn’t leave Miami?

Yes. And I mean no disrespect to him or what he accomplished here. The forgotten part about the ascension of this program was the fact that we were finally willing to spend money on a quality coach and upgrade facilities. And Louisiana has always been a recruiting hotbed with no instate power 5 competition. Not saying it would have been 3 titles. Not saying someone else could have come here and did what Saban did at Bama. But with real financial commitment someone in 23 years would have gotten it right. It was only a matter of time. The 90’s sucked But this program won plenty before that. We weren’t Vandy!

No, LSU lost to Ole Miss and UGA as well. AU only lost 1 and still wins the West.
