2022 numbers from USA Today:
LSU Wire - USA Today

USA TODAY Sports recently released revenue and expense figures for 2022. According to its database, the Tigers ranked sixth nationally in total revenue at roughly $199.3 million. That total ranks behind Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Michigan and Georgia.
Note this data is not available for most private schools.
According to the USA TODAY Sports database, LSU had $192.8 million in expenses during 2022, which ranked fifth. The Tigers’ athletics department also transferred nearly $5 million to the school.

Is Jim using old numbers? I thought the LSU endowment was slightly over $1 billion

how the podunk school in Louisiana can win three national championships in 20 years with so "little" money, while the big, bad Texas schools can't maintain themselves
Well, aTm* is as concerned with homo-erotic chants, cheers, and gestures as they are with winning. That's their biggest issue. Still havn't figured out the LOLhorns*.
*uh-oh, I used a slang. The Project police is going to throw a tantrum.

Does it? My understanding has always been that LSU was one of the few departments that constantly earns a profit (2020 not withstanding)
thats true - LSU athletics used to give back to the university every year.

That article is very poorly written.

Look up UTIMCO if you’re curious how loaded UT and A&M are.

Our endowment is embarrassing.
Not sure why either.

LINK 135 out of 689 in North America.
Just below the average endowment of $1.8 billion, well above the median though.

unfortunately most supporters of LSU only want to support athletics
Wrong! List of top 25 donors to both is VERY similar. Have friends who work for both, and they've all said this

I assumed the recent 1.5 billion fundraiser was surely to boost the endowment too but maybe not?

Dale Brown put LSU basketball on the map. You can hate love for what ever reason but he did produce.

According to this article, LSU only has an endowment of $625 million while other schools such as Texas and Texas A&M have billions which we obviously know comes from oil money
Those are academic endowments and have nothing to do with athletics. They indicate alumni's dedication to academics, not athletics. LSU is not a highly esteemed academic institution. LSU Alumni are not generally inclined to invest in the future academic success of the school.

Supposedly the athletic department runs a deficit every year
If I read it right, the article says it runs a deficit if you exclude donations from an organization specifically created to fund LSU athletics. Here is a hint, probably every profitable athletic program runs a deficit if you exclude their athletic foundation donations from the ledger.

That article is full of contradictions and the writer obviously has an agenda.

According to this article, LSU only has an endowment of $625 million
For comparison's sake, Kentucky's is over $2B and Louisville's is $900M.

You couldn’t be more wrong on this. LSU is one of the few athletic departments that make a profit and has contributed to the academic side when LA Governors cut higher ed in the past. In fact look at the budgets of SLU ULL LaTech and you’ll see your tax dollars going to their athletic departments. With all the needs we have in our state no one should be using tax dollars to pay for athletics in my opinion.

It reached its goal, 1.5 billion, 3 years ahead of schedule in 2022.
I think Tate is doing a great job.

Michael Bloomberg gave Johns Hopkins a 1.8 billion dollar one time endowment. Wrap your head around that.
