Yeah, that’s the song that plays in Ferris Bueller that was stuck on repeat. Probably why she hates it, but idk if it’s meant to be a connection or just guilt from covering up shooting that guy.

I think that’s as close to the sunrise as they would get.

That latitude still gets a few hours of twilight every day.

Couldn't watch last night so just caught up this afternoon.
I know this season wasn't goingto be anyone's favorite in the series (if you even want to count this as actul TD in the first place..) but man it seems to be goinbg in the wrong direction. Episode 1 was kinda lame but hey, it's episode 1. Episode 2 introduced us to some more stuff which kinda seemed to get it back on the right course somewaht, but this last episode was just so lousy. We're now halfway through the season and it feels like nothing has really happened. Every character seems to be a caricature of the role they're supposed to be playing.
-Dark, mysterious Alpha Bitch female that will kick your arse, but also has a sweet tender side with a soft heart
-Aging police vet that doesn't have time for anyone's shite, but better believe she's still DTF bc she's just cool like that
-Clueless blithering bumbling man in charge of the investigation
-Young promising go getter being pulled in both directions by his boss and young wife. How will he juggle his career and family?
And many more. Barely anyone that we've seen so far actually feels like a REAL person. And holy shite...that scene towards the end when Coma dude sits up and is possessed by a ghost and talking to navarro abotu her dead mom? Cringe to the max. That felt like something you'd see in octobier in a small town haunted house being put on by tghe local High School's drama club. It was insultingly bad.
I can't add too much more that hasn't arlrady been addressed. Mainly it feels like there's just too many storylins going on and not near enough time to flesh them all out appropriately.

I’ll throw a question out there for the board.
What if the paranormal stuff happening in this season ends up being explained with science? Would you have a different opinion about the show?
I think in the end there’s going to be an explanation and an explainable outcome, otherwise, as others have said, it would be something else other than True Detective.
Theories:
What if the town’s drinking water, which is obviously contaminated, is making everyone hallucinate?
Perhaps the scientists have also found that microbial DNA substance they were looking for and it’s somehow playing a part in everyone’s behavior, maybe in the drinking water.
If the series does include some kind of paranormal element, you might consider that Clark was trying to resurrect Anne’s soul using the religion of that ancient spiral symbol and a human sized doll, and something else ended up showing up instead.

quote:And all of that would be fine.
I think it’s all misdirection and it will turn out they are all hallucinating from whatever is causing the stillborn births. Navarro is in concussion protocol after busting her head after she slipped chasing after Foster’s dead son. Rose just got so stoned she forgot about the bodies or she is the one that killed them. She is my prime suspect.
But you're walking back probably 5 supernatural, unexplained events on top of a man surviving almost 3 days naked, frozen in ice, in all nighttime sub-freezing conditions.
Let's make a list of these events that have not been even discussed/mentioned by the character that "experienced" them:
1) Danvers wakened by the hand of a child and finding a stuffed polar bear with a missing eye next to bed that later shows up in a box of old toys
2) An actual polar bear with one eye blocks Navarro in the road
3) Navarro throws an orange into the dark, icy unknown, which then rolls back at her feet. She gets a phone call and goes on with it like nothing happened
4) The freak of modern science, survivor from the lab tells Navarro that her mother is waiting for her
I'm sure there's more that eludes me at the moment with so many frickin tangents that have very little if any coherence
The series is now halfway done, and you have time to address all of this with the Season 1 correlations too?
Nah

like the water being bad? It seems liek that's a plausible solution they're hinting at which would kinda suck. "Tainted water makes everyone crazy and hallucinate" is really meh

therwise, as others have said, it would be something else other than True Detective.
I mean let's be real, this IS something other than true detective. This is a completely different show taht someone put together and slapped the TD sticker on so it'd get a larger audience. Throwing a Mercedes badge on an altima doesn't really change what the car actually is.

I was just respondingb to your post bit by bit but see youv'e thought of this as well. I would think that's extraordinarily lazy and unimaginative.

In reality, if this is Season 1, I’m probably digging it. I just can’t stop comparing this to Season 1. It probably isn’t as horrible as we perceive it. It has legitimate storytelling issues though.

eehhhhh idk. I have no problem distancing it from the other seasons of TD. When I'm watching, the other seasons aren't even a blip on my radar. This might as well be some completely brand new show Iv'e never heard of. It doesnt' change waht I'm actually seeing on screen though. Bad dialogue and stiff acting is going to be the same regardless of what the title of the show is.

I think the show has potential. They are seeming to explain a supernatural/cult/spiritual connection to the chaos going on in Ennis.
What if it being solid night all the time makes people go crazy and see things that aren't actually happening. The show is just showing what the terror they are imagining. Or like the other posters have said it the mine poisoning the town and making them crazy. Especially with all the fighting.
The scientist at Tsalal were looking for a healing organism deep in the ice. What if they found it and put it in some girl who "woke up" This show could get very crazy.
Will see if they bring it all together. I'll keep watching. Hoping they can tie it all together. the next episode or 2 will tell us which direction they are going.
- side note - bringing tuttle industries in to the dialog was a bit of a stretch. if it was valid then I hope Tuttles carcosa religion was funding immortality.

I think Danvers feels guilty about whatever happened to her son and husband. They were probably out looking for her as she was banging half the town and died in a crash or something. I think every thing she is seeing is just manifestations of her guilt. Until two or more characters witness some of this weird shite I just assume they are seeing things. Like Rust and the spiral birds and everything he saw in Carcosa. Same with Navarro and the weird shite she has been seeing.
Now I can’t explain how the scientist survived being frozen for two days. I honestly don’t think they are going to try to explain it either.

No that would just be fricking lazy... Like others have said or posed, if it wasn't True Detective as we've known for past 3 season, ok, some spinoff or whatnot, but its all just so messy at this point.

I wonder if , like in season 1.. when Rust and Marty make up part of the events on the assault at Reggie Ledeuxs’ compound with how that all went down…
Did anyone else think the 2 female cops this season made up a similar story and actually killed the abusive husband and framed it to look like a suicide and make up the story that he killed himself before they got there ?
One of them snapped and shot him and the other went along with it and are now linked to this event
If he was in fact whistling twist and shout at them once they arrived.

It was obvious... They killed him, I'd bet the face pierced one since she has this thing against protecting women and thats why Danders or whatever her name is was moved her to state.

Am I the only person in this thread that actually likes this season? I think it is definitely different than the others but have enjoyed the mystery and characters thus far. The supernatural aspect was a little unexpected but i dont hate it so far. Definitely interested to see what the next episodes have in store before i make a total judgement of it.
I was liking this season until epsiode 3

Definitely think that’s possible.
As far as the supernatural stuff, it’s definitely leaning heavily into it at this point. I could see it getting explained away as a couple different things (like the water).
My concern is again how they wrap this up in three more episodes. Also, it could’ve been a show on its own outside of the True Detective realm and I still would have considered watching with who is cast.

Geez episode 3 was terrible. Felt like a really bad attempt at a female Lethal Weapon.
I enjoyed the first two episodes.

It’s not horrible, but I can’t get over the fact that there’s just a handful of butt naked dudes thawing out in the center of the community ice rink. I mean, you can even put a tent or something up around it?

Episode 3 sucked big time. If episode 4 bombs, I’m out
I feel like I’m watching a shitty adaptation of X Files
