LSU fires State climatologist over the recent drought.

Apparently Barry Keim didn’t score it harsh enough.
Once again we see politics trying to dictate the science.

Louisiana State Climatologist Barry Keim, familiar statewide for his explanations of hurricanes, tornadoes and other weather events during his 19 years in the position, has been removed from the post by LSU officials, possibly due to a dispute over whether last summer's intense drought conditions were being accurately portrayed

It’s time for our new governor to exercise some influence.

Other than maybe influence burn bans .. what can a climatologist actually do?
Can’t change the weather or make it rain.
Talk about having zero control over what happens . Can’t play God

"Ahuh'
"Nuh-uh"
"Don't be Jan"
"You're fired"

Thanks to that extraordinary underwater volcanic eruption, we'll likely get hot and dry weather again next year. They say it'll take five years to mitigate the atmospheric affect of all that water vapor.
Academia is hopelessly blinded and corrupted by misguided and pathological ideological delusion. The Truth should never be abandoned for good intentions and hoped for societal positives. They get a failing grade for this, and we'll all pay a price.

I would think it would be the opposite. Adding 10% more water vapor to the atmosphere should create more potential for precipitation, not less.
Disclaimer: I am not a meteorologist nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Which is kind of weird because that eruption sent an incredible amount of water vapor into the atmosphere. On the face, it seems like we would get rainier , wetter weather, not dryer. And I suspect many parts of the world have. But not everywhere. Because that’s not how weather always works.

Apparently Keim wasn't screaming loud enough about the severity of the drought's effects on agricultural interests in Louisiana which caused the U.S. Dept of Agriculture to delay or outright refuse emergency drought relief payments to Louisiana farmers.
So politicians got involved when their constituents were complaining to them about not getting gubmint money funneled to them fast enough.
So the reason he was removed as State Climatologist is MONEY.
Keim will continue teaching at LSU as a tenured professor.

That's some bullshite!
Great link btw. Some good quotes from the story:
quote:
The university refused to say why it was replacing Keim. But in a letter emailed to other members of the American Association of State Climatologists, Keim said it likely was the result of criticism by farming interests related to the classification of drought conditions in August. Keim and others say he was mistakenly criticized over the issue.
quote:
“I encountered angry farmers and ranchers applying pressure on me to make the USDM match their perceived notions of the level of drought across the state,” Keim write. “The Farm Bureau summoned me because the front page of the USDM states, ‘For local details and impacts, please contact your State Climatologist or Regional Climate Center,’ as if this is a product (at least partly) of the State Climatologists.”
But Mark Svoboda, a climatology professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and director of the National Drought Mitigation Center, which helps oversee the drought monitor work, said that while state climatologists provide data to the staff that produces the weekly maps outlining drought conditions, the staffers base the maps on that and other information collected by his center, NOAA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
quote:
“What happened to Barry is a tragedy, especially given the fact that he was doing his job and was a vital link to getting input from the ground level in the state of Louisiana into our national weekly USDM product, which ultimately served the producers of Louisiana well,” Svoboda said.
That's just terrible.

Depends how much money you have.
Bill Gates plans to seed the atmosphere with gases and particles to affect how much sunlight can reach the earth's surface and therefore lower global temperatures. Like, nothing at all could go wrong, right?
Their solution to their bogus "man-made climate change" narrative is to actually deliberately change the climate on earth.
You wonder why Zuckerlizard is building a bunker in Hawaii, and these other uber-billionaires are all seemingly preparing for something cataclysmic?

Farmers: "No, you don't understand, it's really dry here."
Climate Guy: "I agree...it's really dry here."
Farmers: "You just don't get it. It's really, really, really, really, really, really, really dry here."
Climate Guy: "Well, I won't go THAT far."
Farmers: : "Show us the money!!"
Climate Guy: "What?!?"
Farmers: "You're fired!"

All very interesting when you consider that Bob Whiny Mann acted like a drama queen and resigned crying that he didn’t have faith in LSU protecting him from a Governor-elect who hasn’t even taken office yet.
Meanwhile, Landry goes ahead and “OKs” the appointment of Rick Gallot (someone whom I’m sure Jeff disagrees with politically) as President of the U of Louisiana System, and it now appears Klein is a victim of possible political retribution, because his views didn’t match what others wanted.
Am I getting this right?

He cam tell everyone CO2 caused the drought
He apparently has a brain, so he didn't do that, and was fired.

I’m not shocked there’s very little chatter of this. They will ride the climate change nonsense nonstop over openly discussing the extreme likelihood of the high heat being an outlier due to El Niño and the volcano.

2023 was a relatively dry year here in Baton Rouge. It was unusually hot and dry this Summer.
But just how dry was it overall? I believe we had a 9 inch below average rainfall for the year. I’m betting we’ve often had as bad or worse because no one is saying it was the worst ever.
How did 2023 rank? Top five driest? Top ten? Top twenty? Who knows?
