European flight question (Updated connection question/paging Cuse)

Looking at a flight in October to Italy. I’ve got 2 questions:
1) Will prices go down? I’ve got my google alerts set for the flight, and it goes up or down a few dollars, but I’m anxious that the price will jump up at some point. Any reasonable expectation that the price will go down in the next month or two?
2) It’s on British Airways with a layover in Heathrow. Looking at the other thread, I’m wondering how much time I need for the layover. On the way there is 4 hours, on the way back is 2 hours.
I’ve flown out of Heathrow before and it was no problem at all. But the other thread got me wondering about the layover experience.

If your flights are in the same terminal, then it's no big deal, but changing terminals at LHR can be a nightmare.

Yes flights will go down. You're traveling in October which is a low travel period especially for us-europe. Last few years we've seen low costs in the $500-$700 range.
One of the things you can do when flying international is you can book a stopover in a city for less than 24 hours at the same cost. Not sure if you have any desire to visit London/England at all but may be a way to break up your trip? Book it as a multi city ticket with msy-lhr-italy, then italy-lhr, and next day lhr-msy (or wherever you are starting from)

RE: Layovers.
Rule of thumb for international travel: Whatever can go wrong WILL!!! Delays. Customs. Name it.
I try to target 3 hours minimum if we can. Can always get some lunch, maybe go to a premium lounge if you have it. Far better than being so stressed out missing a connection.

I'm looking at flights at end of May and back in June for Spain and Rome, crazy and probably not gonna get better. $8700 for 3 of us in premium economy.

Most likely. What current price are you seeing?

Both SHOULD be fine, Heathrow can be a pain in the arse, but it should be ok.
Just an FYI, British has among the highest fees and taxes of American Airlines affiliated airlines.

British Air tacks on fuel surcharges if you fly through Great Britain. Look at Iberia into Milan.

I would never fly through London to Italy unless it was the last resort. Try to find some directs from the USA if possible. Much better imo, that’s a good distance from London to Italy which means you won’t arrrive until noon or well after which means your first day is wasted and you’ll be exhausted.

Right now MSY-MAD is $546/person rt economy fare for end of Oct., or even leaving as soon as Feb.-March. The fares are about the same from BTR and MLU. Comparable fares to DUB. In a few weeks, prices from MAD-Milan should drop to $44/person rt.

My first international vacation was to Rome from MSY. We did the BA flights MSY-LHR-FCO. We left MSY in the evening and arrived in Rome the next day around 5pm.
I've taken several trips to Europe since then, and will never take that Italy flight itinerary again. The long flight direct out of MSY is enticing, but I would rather fly into Rome from NY/CHI/ATL and get into Rome mid-day or earlier. You are overthinking the jetlag. Your days are limited so getting in after 4 pm to your final destination is a HUGE waste of time.
Look into leaving MSY in the morning, getting to a major US airport mid afternoon and then catching a long haul from there to Rome. It will be an overnight flight and you will arrive usually before noon. Nothing worse than taking the 8 hour flight out of MSY, but still having to do more traveling once you arrive.

Still stalking flights and prices are beginning to drop. One flight out of BTR has a 35 minute connection in Charlotte. I love flying out of BTR, but 35 minutes for an international connection seems way too short.
Thoughts? TIA![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

I was watching a September flight to Amsterdam on Expedia. It started out around $1400 but after several weeks it dropped to $640. I tried to book but when I selected that same flight it said prices increased to $1200. I don't know if Expedia is unreliable or I just didn't book soon enough. I'm waiting for prices to drop again.

Just booked a multi-city trip Atl-Krakow Warsaw-Reykjavik Reykjavik-Atl on Kiwi for just over $900 (May and June)
In general it seems like best cities to fly into from US are Reykjavik or Frankfurt

Heathrow security sucks. I would always want at least two hours. Also be prepared to bus to a stair gate.
I've never gotten a jet bridge for my flight to Msy.
