This shite is dumb. You can easily get multiple meals at a grocery store for $20 if you know how to shop.

I watch CNN.
I don't understand what high prices you are referring to.

I would not have a problem paying restaurant prices for food if 80% of the restaurants I’ve eaten at could cook worth a damn.

I’m not a great cook myself. Just a good at a few things here and there. But I definitely would trust myself to cook a steak before nearly any restaurant.

No it’s not.

I would guess on average, eating out is 3x more expensive.

How many hamburgers could you grill for the same price as a Quarter Pounder meal? For the price of a burger at sit down burger restaurants?

Chicken fajitas are like 15-20 dollars for one serving at just a random Mexican joint. 15-20 dollars worth of chicken and the fixings is enough for my family of 3 to eat twice.

I cooked two 12 oz filets, 3 baked potatoes, and a Caesar salad kit for about $40 on NYE. Filets that big with share size potatoes and large Caesar would be like 120-160 at nice restaurant (not roadhouse).

I can get 16-20 ounce prime ribeyes at the local grocery store for 22/lb… Same deal as the filets. Prime ribeyes that big at nice steak restaurants will be like 54-62?

And then pork… You can grill some elite bone in 12 oz pork chops for like 5 or 6 dollars each.

While prices have gone insane, you've also gone insane. I get steaks at less than 10 dollars a pound most of the time. If I am looking for the nice stuff, yeah it gets pricey as hell.

Yeah prices are crazy. Not just food. I actually pay a driver full time instead of buying a car. Works out financially to just pay the guy to drive me around in his Camry instead of buying a Lamborghini.

I found ribeyes for $13 dollars apiece at my local grocery store. The ingredients for salad were about 5 dollars.

You do know 12oz is less than a pound, right?

1. Get a freezer
2. Buy 1/2 a cow
3. profit

Takes planning to thaw the stuff but for functioning adults its pretty easy. If you wanted to go even cheaper get a deer to put in the freezer every year.

I wait until the steaks are on sale, then buy a bunch. Season and freeze them individually. Then pull out the sous vide when I want to eat one. Just need about 2 hours notice and can have a pefect medium rare steak from frozen while only really dirtying my black iron skillet that takes 2 minutes to clean. I've got 10 steaks in my freezer right now.

Fresh Market does $6.00 bistro meals every thursday and it's become part of our weekly dinner plans.

I know I can't cook dinner for $6/person

This is kinda my point. The cost for steaks has gotten retarded. I remember not so long ago it being nearly half this price. Certainly less than $20 a pound.

So you went and bought the most desirable cut of steak around the holiday/celebration season and are shocked that it costs almost as much as a mid level/lower rung steakhouse?

They almost always have their steaks on sale on Fridays too.

Between that and buying bulk at Costco, we save a ton on meat.

I'm a new Sam's member this year. I paid for my Sam's membership in steak savings in my first 2 trips this year.

And that's before even getting to discount/old meat (which is still good for 3-4 days past the sell by date).

If you’re eating ribeyes as standard dinner then it’s possible.

If you eat like a normal person, cooking at home is always cheaper.
