I actually can squeeze in a day's worth of meals for just under $20 if I do it right.

Breakfast: McDonalds: 2x Sausage & Egg Burrito, no sides - $4.08
Lunch: Office Grab & Go: roast beef sandwich & bag of chips - $3.68
Dinner: Subway: 12" Oven Roasted Turkey sandwich - $10.12

We go in on a cow with a group. Then we eat like when I was growing up. Spaghetti / other pastas, grilled cheese / soup, and we’ll shred a rotisserie chicken for a variety of options with veggies.

pretty sure you just wanted to do a little skyscreaming (nttisawwt) and this thread is an exaggeration at best but more likely a complete fabrication

Chicken fajitas are like 15-20 dollars for one serving at just a random Mexican joint. 15-20 dollars worth of chicken and the fixings is enough for my family of 3 to eat twice.

I don't know about that.

Just looking at Walmart's website:

Chicken breasts (4.7-6.25lbs)- $13.64
Bell Pepper (3 count)- $2.98
Onion- $0.75
Head of lettuce- $1.77
Tomato- $1.98
Refried beans (2 cans)- $3.76
Mexican Rice- $1.28
Cheese- $2.22
Tortillas (10 count)- $2.78
Total: $30.16

that's the case for upper middle class suburban/urban people.

the PWT I grew up with can and do kill them for next to nothing and depend on it for food.

Could have bought a 5 lb chuck roast for 20$ and ate on it for 2-3 days. Or go to Sam’s/Costco and paid half of what you did

I bought a big arse bag of leg quarters for 8.50 yesterday and smoked them, had to freeze about a 1/3 of bag because it was too much

Kroger also had t-bones on sale for like 5$ a pound yesterday

Have to shop smarter if you want to save money

The bonless chicken tiddays were 50% off of $2.29/lb this week in Baton Rouge.

$1.15/lb for good quality chicken tidday is fricking absurd.

I got several family packs!

Rouses has pork chops for 97 cents/pound right now. You can definitely eat cheaper at home than a restaurant.

eating out is usually cost effective it if it's some sort of thai, indian, etc. dish that I wouldn't even know how to begin to make

a steak is the absolute last thing this applies to

We had steaks tonight, and I paid $20 each for 12 oz ribeyes at our grocery store. The 12 oz ribeye at Texas Roadhouse is $22.49 and comes with two sides. It's fricking bull shite.

Give me a $20 ribeye from the grocery store and it will be exponentially better than a Roadhouse ribeye.

Yeah, pretty much. It was a little sticker shock, honestly. The step daughter and her husband were in town and came over for new years dinner. They requested steak, so I went and got us some steaks at the store. It was shocking that they were charging well over$20 a pound for ribeye. We normally get steaks from Sam's which I believe is cheaper, but I didn't go there yesterday. For shits and grins I compared to what it would have cost to just take everyone out for steaks, and was surprised to find it was nearly the same price to do that.

We went to our local (in the country) Texican (it’s actually sorta authentic) joint the other night, and it was just under $70 with tip. I had seafood soup (actually pretty good when sick), wife [pics omitted] had some “cheap” taco combo, boys split a basic taco combo. I had tea they had water. Wife [pics to follow] had one small house margarita (which annoys me because what’s the purpose?). Small queso. We used to get out of there for about $40 for similar meal before subsidizing the Ukraine money laundering scheme and paying for COVID bucks.

I have our grocery shopping down to a science and with deep freezer and just stocking up when shite is on sale at Costco/Sam’s, it’s way way cheaper to eat at home. And actually faster and less headache given where we live and ages of our kids.
