Unless injured. It may save these disasters like we saw at the Orange Bowl.

Not sure if it can be legally enforced, but there is a problem now.

I don’t understand clinging to this bowl system. Let it go. Unnecessary.

next year it will be the final week of the regular season. Will you cling to that?

It’s great for the cities that host. Also a chance for fans to travel and enjoy. It does seem antiquated now. With the 12 team playoff, we may only see 11 Bowl Games in the near future.

Bowl games should only be for playoffs moving forward

Imagine if the NFL teams not in the playoffs would play a random game at end of the season?

Not realistic. Individual contracts with that clause could probably be legally enforced, but why would a player sign with School A with that clause attached, when School B will offer them the same money without it?

If you're talking about schools colluding to only have 1 uniform NIL contract for all players, then, no, that wouldn't be legal. The NCAA could make it a rule, but it would get struck down in the courts in about 15 seconds.

Imagine the NFL having 120+ teams and only 4 or 12 going to the playoffs.

The only problem is people caring about bowls that don’t matter.

It is against one of the few rules in place. NIL cannot be tied to athletic performance. Requiring participation in games is considered that.

A poster said in another thread that pay-for-play would be what you need to allow this. I think that is correct.

They haven't even figured out how to stop teams from faking injuries to stop the clock or slow down an up-tempo offense. By the end of the season, everyone is nicked up at least a little, They will find a doctor to advise them not to play.

Just live with what we have. 12 team playoffs mean you will get 11 post-season games with likely full squads other than injuries. There will be four first-round games, four quarterfinals, two semis, and a championship game.

And lesser bowl games tend to have full or nearly full squads because those teams often have fewer early-round draft picks playing.

You can’t have an NIL contract that requires playing. Hence it being play for pay

The contracts are written out either by months or by semesters.

The semester is over for most schools before reaching the bowl games.

I get it, but how does one account for transfers when the academic calendar dictates that players transfer prior to bowl games (I'm assuming this is the reason for the current transfer window)? Honestly, I wish postseason play was required and that the transfer window occurs after the season ends.

Such contracts cannot be legally enforced, currently. It is illegal to insert a clause in an NIL contract to demand any participation whatsoever. It cannot in any way be tied to participation. This is why people get NIL deals out of high school, in full, and then transfer out to get another NIL deal.

Once college football goes to a player association with employment status, that will all change. But right now you can't give anyone a penny and demand anything related to participation in any form.

you do understand that the bowls are private. The NCAA doesn't control them. And each one is separate.

Anybody can start a bowl at any time. Hell, you and I could start a bowl if we got a sponsor and a TV deal.

The bowls (not the ones that are now part of the playoffs) are really just private exhibitions. If a bowl pays enough money, they'll get teams to play in them.

Any team that places restrictions on NIL payments sets themselves up to be poached by teams that place none. It truly is the Wild West right now.

You obviously don’t understand the difference between NIL and a school’s collective paying players.

NIL: Jayden Daniels signs a contract with a company like Nissan and allows them to use his name, image, and license in commercials.

School collective: Utah gives a $70,000 Ram pickup one year lease to every player on the roster. Each player must adhere by team rules and relinquishes the truck if they transfer or leaves the program for any reason.

Any school that doesn't have restrictions or guidelines will get robbed blind. I heard Mascona talking about Heard's NIL and if he can be believed. He says Heard's deal says he has to be at a autograph signing in late January as part of his agreement and that could hinder him leaving LSU because he would have to pay back money he already received if he didn't meet his obligations.

I disagree about letting it go. For some players it's "one last game". Everyone that ever played a sport wishes for that "one last game". Not everybody is destined to play professionally. If you don't like them, don't watch.

The same is true for fans of the teams involved. Not everybody is a football snob and only watch "important" games, whatever in the Hell that is supposed to mean.

For a lot of football fans, me included, they present an opportunity to see teams that we wouldn't have had a chance to see.

They present an opportunity for boost tourism for the cities involved, one very close to here, providing jobs and income for the people involved in that industry.

I'm thinking that some of the bowls will be involved somehow. So far all of you, "I only watch the important games" types out there, just relax. Grab one of your chilled Natty Lights and watch a rousing cooking show and leave the rest of us to our low brow entertainment.

You mean like the MEANINGLESS PRO BOWL??? A game where the QB wasn't the first selection but rather the 4th because 2 are in the real playoffs and the other 1 declined the offer.
