I have a USP and it’s one of my favorites. But it’s over your budget I believe.

Even at that, there is nothing like shooting a good 1911. I have big hands as well and I’d pick a 1911 any day.

The Rock Island 1911’s get great reviews. Will probably own one very soon.

any recommendations for any others?

I have a Springfield XD in .45, and it is a nice shooting gun. Fits my hand great, and the recoil feels not much more than my 9mm Glock.

I’m 6’6” with long fingers so the regular single stack 1911s don’t fit me the best. I’ve tried Kimber, Springfield, Taurus. I’m positive it’d be simple to get wider grips or whatnot but I’m just not really a 1911 guy.

Yep I see that. I’ll be headed to Athena hopefully today if they’re open. Boyerts rental selections did not match what’s on the website.

I also have an HK USP 45. It’s the most reliable pistol I own (other than a revolver). I reload and have been able to feed it anything from lightly loaded lead SWC rounds for practice, to hot, jacketed personal defense rounds, and it doesn’t jam or have a failure to fire, ever.

Sig P220, but I would buy it used LE trade ins. Keeps you under budget and pistol will last forever.

I had the FNP .45, loved it, sold it at height of ammo pricing, with the intent of buying the 9mm but never got around to it.

Regret selling it to this day.

I have an fnx 45, I love it. The trigger is a little spongy and it’s not light. But I really enjoy shooting it. Definitely recommend it.

Gonna have to say Sig P220. It’s a machine and I’m Team Glock.

Walther PPQ, if you can find one, is a good shooter and a nice trigger out of the box.

This is probably what I’d get except it’s discontinued and my Xmas gift card is for basspro so I’d like to buy from there if possible.

.45ACP pistol choice? by RustyDaDogWalther has a full size .45 that’s a sweet shooting gun, feels more like shooting a 9 than a 45

I suggest you try out the Walthers. As a lefty the ergonomics are outstanding and the triggers are one of the best.
