I usually will offer to wash my family’s clothes before they leave so their things can just be put away when they get home.

I try to be hospitable and make their stay nice- since they traveled to see us.

I have a washer/dryer set upstairs and a set downstairs, I don’t give a damn if guests want to do their laundry.

We do this every year for all families. My MiL is doing laundry right now.

But I also like my family and know they will let me if needed.

Not complaining I just found it odd. I’m the most well off of the bunch and I do have the nicest appliances and biggest house which is why I host.

Having clean clothes when you get home is the best. We try to find places that have laundry when we go on vacation so we can pack less clothes and we can have clean clothes when we get back.

That said, if we were staying at someone's house it's definitely something we would ask about first.

I'm doing this, but only because we took the small car (two grown kids and dog in sedan) because the SUV went in the shop. Space was at a premium.

Couldn’t be that big of a family if they all did laundry before they left? I don’t think anyone in my family would give a frick if we or they did laundry in each others house. We also have a small family but I don’t see an issue at all? This is like the couples I see venmo each other for a meal. It’s your fricking family. Who gives a shite if they do a couple loads of laundry?

The OP allowed his entire extended family to wash their whole suitcases like his house was a fricking Holiday Inn laundromat while he footed the bill.

Maybe y'all shouldn't be hosting if the cost of a couple loads of laundry is going to break the bank.

He said the whole family did it in a morning. It can’t be that big of a family. Takes at least 30-40 min to wash and same to dry. That would be 5 loads of laundry max if they started at 7am and ended at noon. Big fricking deal for your family.

All you had to do is make up an excuse saying you’ve been having washing machine issues so please don’t use it.

Congrats though on the higher water bill, higher detergent, higher electric bill and beat up washer and dryer.

Would you really tell family no if they asked?

We’re talking, what, maybe $10 worth of water, electricity and detergent combined?

To answer the OP, I don’t see the big deal if they just ask if it’s all right.

Exactly this is crazy to me. I’d let my family stay for weeks if they needed to and do laundry. And I know 99% of my family, immediate or even 2nd and 3rd cousins would do the same. I don’t think there’s anyone I know in my family I couldn’t call to stay with for a week or two if I needed it. Much less do a couple loads of laundry.

Oh

OH.

For some reason I read it as they did his laundry (sheets, towels) that they had used.

It is not about you, it is about them.

They pay less in electricity for the dryer and also use your detergent.

14 people.

And they didn’t wash their sheets because laundry was done the day before they left. Since they were familiar with the machines, they should have stripped their beds & at least started one set of sheets before they hit the door.

Is this a thing? They all left this morning and everyone did laundry yesterday. Why? I will always wash everything when I get home.

Hell if a load of laundry was the price for getting them the frick out I'd gladly pay it for them....

If it bothers you don't have them at your house or tell them that you do not want them using your washer and drier. How many people we talking? If it was 20 spread out over 5 families yeah, that seems excessive and almost planned for some reason...maybe its happened before and someone said something? If it was one or 2 loads what is the problem? I'd be more concerned with the over eating fricks shitting 3-4 times a day.

Big difference between if your staying at your parent's or sister's house vs your third cousin.

Right!?!

As someone who travels a lot to see family and friends, I always wash my things, and bedding/towels before I leave.

I leave a place better than I found it and I love getting back home with clean clothes.

I don’t understand why anyone would be bothered by this.
