re: Hosted my whole family for Xmas and they left this morning and they all did laundry. Why?

I mean for them it’s great especially if flying and they don’t want to mix dirty and clean clothes. If driving they can just throw dirty in a bag. Hopefully they asked someone and didn’t just do multiple loads of laundry.

Pretty sure it was intended as a nice gesture.

My family only does laundry if we’re staying in a cabin/condo situation. I think it’s rude to do my laundry at someone’s else’s house… of course, unless they offer.

If you haven’t noticed, most people are weirdos.

To do their own laundry n his dime?

Yeah it shouldn’t be a big deal but I would ask the host regardless thinking they will say yes.

I definitely had no idea this was even a possibility… I’ve washed clothes in a condo before if we are there for week+, and usually only because someone else is “doing a load” and asks. Otherwise, I have all my clothes. Never ever returned home with a bag of clean clothes lol. Does sound lovely though.
I’d never be doing laundry at a personal residence unless absolutely necessary, yea, that’s weird to me.

My wife's family does this. Just their clothes, not any of the sheets or towels they use.

I think some families are closer than others and don’t look at things as an imposition when other families may. I’m very fortunate to have great in laws and we always share the expenses when we’re together and don’t let small things frustrate us. Enjoy your family while you have them.
If small things like that annoy you that much, stick to texting during the holidays.

This isn't really a big deal man

Don’t think OP was annoyed, just thought it was odd. As would I. Especially if only a few days.
I’m just picturing it from my perspective of loading up the machine at your house, grabbing some of your detergent, turning it on. Alright be back in bit to dry these. It’s… odd

I never pack enough for a whole trip if there is a washer and dryer available

Did they wash your sheets or their clothes?
Posted on 12/27/23 at 6:59 pm to LRB1967
They did that on purpose so they could hang around another day and aggravate you.
Posted on 12/27/23 at 7:02 pm to tigerbacon
They’re worried your house has bedbugs and don’t want to bring them home with them.

I'm doing this, but only because we took the small car (two grown kids and dog in sedan) because the SUV went in the shop. Space was at a premium.
Are you shrinking your clothes or something?
