The box and lid are wrapped separately and all they just lift the lid off the box. No tape to break, no wrapping paper, no cussing.
This is not real life.
I have wondered about this pretty much my whole life.

Opening a package in a movie or TV show is shoe leather. Just like saying goodbye when they are on the phone. It is mundane, takes time, and adds nothing to the story
But it takes away from the story because it takes me out of the moment. I always think...wow, that's so weird. It's just bad.

Continuity between different shots of the same scene is a common reason.

One of the biggest things about tv that doesn’t reflect real life is no one ever talks over another person, or multiple conversations aren’t taking place at once. They always wait until the person says their line, then the next person speaks

Television and film are not intended to depict reality.
They are intended to depict the illusion of reality.
They are intended to depict the illusion of reality.

Because there's a dick in there and tearing it open could be catastrophic.

That would be incredible if it was reality.

How about every citizen of Genoa City ( young & The Restless) are in tip top shape but they eat out at nearly every meal and never work out ?
Also, Christine Blair has been raped at least two times; almost drowned by a psychotic individual; been cheated on, and yet goes to work each day with a smile on her face ( without therapy intervention)

I am just assuming here, but I would image its that way on TV its a time issue. Unwrapping a gift isn't important to a story so they just make it quick. "Here is a gift" Person opens up the top "oh wow its what I always wanted"... Story moves on.
In real life, for whatever reason some people think they need to put several layers of wrap on it along with a tight arse ribbon and if it doesn't require a pocket knife to open it, it isn't wrapped good.

White men don’t have black wives like on TV
Asian men don’t have white wives like on TV
Not every family has a 5 course dinner with a perfectly placed set of china and silverware

In my 43 years on earth I’ve never known anyone to swallow dry pills without washing them down with something but I guess it’s not uncommon in the world beyond my circle

Why did all those people in shows in 70’s & early 80’s somehow end up in quicksand but were pulled out at the last second?
This! When I was a kid, I thought quicksand was a real threat.

Why do you rinse your mouth? Do you never use mouth wash? Do you rinse after mouth wash? Maybe I should start my own thread? I like the feeling of clean teeth when I sleep I guess?

You are supposed to do this? I always did what they do on tv and still have never had a cavity.

And everyone huddles together on one side of the crowded dining table instead of spreading out around it evenly spaced. Everyone has to face the camera and very few actually eat anything. They all just stir or pick at their food.

So you brush your teeth with toothpaste and just leave your mouth full of toothpaste and don’t rinse it? That’s weird bruh

How come on tv and movies, they will have one person prepare a five course breakfast only for one person to take one bit and say oh I have to run I’m gonna be late. Like who the frick does that?

This is actually the correct way to brush your teeth.
Floss
Tongue scraper
Mouthwash
Brush
I had done this wrong for many years, believing mouthwash was last.
