If you don’t promote Sloan or give him and title with a raise (passing game coordinator) you lose all leverage on Underwood in the 25 cycle. This kid is a once in a decade type QB talent.

Not really a battlefield promotion when it's the offseason, imo.

And the recruitment of Underwood is big -- but not big enough to take a big risk. I mean, what if Sloan and Nuss struggle next year? That hurts our odds with Underwood, also.

When it comes to offense, I trust BK. If he thinks Sloan has the proper skills and grooming, then so be it.

At the end of the day the OC is going to be someone that lines up with Kelly’s vision of the offense so we can discuss the pie in the sky names but it’ll probably be Sloan

I mean, in actual warfare that’s not true at all.

Usually hate promoting within, but man I've got a good feeling Sloan is going to be an elite HC one day.

I’m just going to work under the assumption that Kelly probably had an eye for Sloan to be the OC at some point anyway.

I’m good with Sloan. He did develop JD into being an elite down field passer and he can recruit.

It will be hard to be worse than Denbrock on short yardage and hopefully rolling out on third down goes away

Lol at hiring an OC in order to land a recruit. Cart before the horse much?

Just hire the best person available and let the chips fall.

This. Worked with Aranda. Worked with Denbrock. Go get the best available.

I kinda had that thought before all this.

Me too. I always thought Sloan would wind up the OC here eventually. But if not here, it's happening somewhere else very soon. Is there a risk hiring him with his lack of experience? Sure. But I think the bigger risk might be letting him go and turn into one of the best OCs in the country at another school.

You have good feelings. Other people have bad feelings.

How do we know which feelings are right, whose feelings are wrong, and who are just random fricktards flipping coins on the internet?

I really can’t tell the difference.

What happens if you promote Sloan and the offense tanks?

Alternatively, what happens if you hire the best available OC and Nuss lights it up?

My point is, LSU should hire the best available OC and not just promote because of one potential recruit.

This is just fan talk/opinion. If Kelly does promote Sloan, it won’t just be because of Underwood. It will be because he believes he’s ready to run the offense.
