I've always been a tacoma driver, but was towing more than my 18 tacoma could handle regualy and also welcomed a little more cab room. I sold my 180k mile tacoma at the height of the used car craziness for 1k less than I had bought it for new. Drove a beater for a year, than bought a 2016 f150 with thr 3.5 ecoboost. I have been blown away with the power and MPG numbers I've been getting. I have changed a starter and water pump on it myself, I'm hoping that's it for a while. The 2016 still has the 6speed tyranny.
Even if the diesel is getting 30mpgs, that is not enough to offset the additional $1.00 a gallon diesel runs over 87 gas, before you even get into the DEF fluid things.

Have a 2012 that runs great. I just have to run some corn free through it from time time.

But the 2.7L Ecoboost is mostly a solid engine, especially since they added port fuel injection to circumvent the shitty PVC system it has. It doesn't really have the carbon build up issues anymore. And it never really had the shitty cam phaser problems that other Ford engines had (including the 3.5). When it comes to the 2.7L turbo Ford - it's the rest of the truck that I'd worry about. Not the engine.
I have a 2019 with the 3.5 and I love that engine. And yes it’s everything else that’s shitty. Rattles, rides like shite, electrical issues.

Owned 2. Zero issues. Great truck and engine.

Who here has real world experience with this engine ?
I had a 2015 F150 with the 2.7l turbo that had 185,000 trouble free miles on it until some idiot crossed the center line and totaled it.
I now have a 2021 F150 with the 3.5l turbo hybrid that is approaching 60,000 trouble free miles.
I got about 20 mpg (mostly highway) with the 2.7 and now get about 21-22 mpg (mostly highway) with the 3.5.
I have zero complaints with either engine (or the transmission).
Fully endorse the F150 with either one.

This is a very good alternative for people who put a lot of miles on their truck.
Thats why I bought one...I put 40k-50k+ a year on my trucks

SO had the 3.5 eco boost. Never towed anything heavy and got great gas mileage, around 18 overall and 21-22 on highways.
Upgraded to the 2023 3.6 and get about 17-18. Gas mileage goes way down after 80+ mph. She’s fast, though.

Love it and will own another for next truck. Tuned mine after warranty... ($500 adds 100ft lbs to the wheels). Currently at 155k miles and have averaged 17mpg in my 5 yrs of ownership. Tows great but fuel economy goes to sh*t (8-10mpg).
Driving a non TT truck feels like it's pulling a trailer after you're used to having EB's diesel like torque curve.

There are deals to find on the 3.0. You just have to find the right dealerships . The ones in Houston just don’t carry it so no deals .

I have a 2017 with the same setup and haven't had any issues with the truck other than a few recalls that took them a few hours to do.
Granted, I have pretty low mileage for a 6.5 year old truck but it's been solid.

I have a 2018. 55,000 miles and zero issues. I pull a 8k lb boat with no issues. I wouldn't want to pull stuff in hilly conditions.

Any feedback on the 3.5 hybrid? How’s the switch over from electric to gas?
I hate the engine cut off at stops so not sure I could get use to it.

I've had both. The 5.0 is better if you are towing or hauling anything. My 3.5 ecoboost blew up at 102k miles but it was better on gas when I wasn't towing my boat. Personally I wouldn't buy another 3.5 or 2.7 ecoboost. I'm staying with the 5.0 V8 (strictly because of hauling & towing).

Had a great experience with the one that I owned. Did 155,000 miles of problem free use before I sold it. I had an aftermarket oil cooler put on it and don’t regret that decision.
Had a few recalls and whatnot for a couple issues. One oddball issue was a switch on the brakes that wore out and the brake lights stayed on even if the truck was shut off.
Real world mileage didn’t end up being much better than the V8, but the torque was fantastic and drivability was great. Overall, I was really happy with that purchase; other than the random couple small things, tires, brakes and oil changes is all it ever needed.

The 3.5 hybrid has been perfect so far. The kick in for the gas engine is pretty smooth. I hear it more than I feel it.
The battery has a 100,000 mile warranty which was important to me because I was skeptical at first. I’m sold now.

I bought a new 2019 Expedition with the 3.5 eco-boost.
Engine had to be opened up 5 times to fix issues with the cam phasers in the first 40k miles.
10 speed transmission had to be completely rebuilt at only 48k miles.
All were covered under the warranty, but Ford must have spent $10k-$15k on the repairs.
If the transmission had waited another 2 months, I would have been stuck with an $8,500 repair bill.
I picked it up from the Ford dealer after the transmission was fixed and drove straight to the Toyota dealer. Did not stop for ANYTHING, straight from Ford to Toyota.
Neighbor, 10 speed transmission went out about 2 months after the warranty expired.
Co-worker, 10 speed transmission went out about 5 months after the warranty expired.

Yeah the Ford guys always say to stay away from the 10 speeds.
