The music, the pace, the characters, the story itself is awesome
don’t invest too much into the crappy CGI or average dialogue….if that’s what you’re looking for then there are a lot of movies you might find awful

Watching something as a kid is totally different than watching the same thing as an adult. Try watching He-Man or The Smurfs today and see how quickly you change it to something else.

I saw this on my honeymoon in IMAX (I was a poor college kid when I got married.) And I hated it then and had no idea why people gushed over it.
My wife and kids watch it every year and I check out because I find it genuinely, offensively bad.
I’d sooner watch 4 Christmases or Jingle All the Way than PE ever again.

Never liked it growing up. Didn’t even give it a chance to be honest. There were much better classic Christmas movies when I was growing up. Tried to give it another shot last night but gave up halfway through. Great post OP.

Maybe I just like the “emptiness”. It does feel cold and a little haunting. But I sort of figured that was the point. The kid is supposed to feel relatively alone on his journey I thought. And comes together at the end.

It wouldn't say it's terrible. But the graphics are like watching a video game cutscene from the same time period.
Zemeckis did a much better job with the motion capture Jim Carrey Christmas Carrol movie a few years later.

4 Christmases is OK, but Jingle All the Way is awesome.
