The Polar Express is a terrible movie

I try to give this thing a shot every year and every year it kicks me in the nuts.
Kids had it on so I stopped and watched a scene or two. Turrible.
For people that put it as one of their favorite Christmas movies: what do you like about it?
It’s awkward as hell and tough to watch IMO.

I think for some it’s that they grew up loving the book so they’re bound and determined that they’re gonna make themselves like the movie. It’s just hard to make a 5-10 minute read book into a feature film. There’s way too much space to try to fill. How The Grinch Stole Christmas worked because there’s a character that you can do a backstory on and The Seuss universe in and of itself kind of gives you some free rein with filler because of how wacky it is.

My son had a friend back then who looked and sounded EXACTLY like that character. Whenever we’d watch that movie we’d be like, “Oh my god, that is totally Mikey!”
He was a super nice kid though.
