Cousin Wedding Laws by State
I read a crazy story about a couple who got married, not realizing they were first cousins (adoption was invloved), and were quickly divorced. That got me thinking about state laws, so I decided to Google the laws. I was actually shocked to discover how many states allow it, which brings me to the following question:
Do you know anyone who are either married to their cousin or accidentally married a cousin and got divorced?
I don't know anyone for sure, but I suspect a few!!!!
Thanks in advance!

The dateline a couple weeks ago was about a car dealer in Baton Rouge. He was from Iran and married his first cousin. He brought it all the way up to the Supreme Court that she shouldn’t get anything since LA doesn’t recognize 1st cousins ability to marry.
He lost the case and murdered her

This is why it's important to know the difference between your second cousin and first cousin, once removed. Most folks think, incorrectly, the latter is the former.

No. At least not for a few generations.
But, when I worked in psychiatrist residential at a children’s group home we had a kid that was from around Hazard that was born of siblings. And his parents were also born from siblings. Pretty sure that family tree went straight up for awhile.
It was incredibly sad as he looked like the kid out of Deliverance and functioned on a 3rd grade level at the age of 12.

My parents have a great great grandmother in common. Or maybe great great great.
NGL IWHH my first cousin in her early twenties. She was a smokeshow. Then she got married, had kids and became morbidly obese.

Pretty much 100% of the world’s population has someone in their family tree and that’s usually within the last few generations.

I was about 13 or 14 when a similar situation happened. The feeling only lasted for about 2 minutes because I had to ask who she was.
I came home from a short trip with a friend's family. I walked down the hallway to my bedroom, opened my door, and saw a beautiful 15 year old blonde laying on my bed playing Nintendo. She turned to me, smiled, and said hello....and knew my name! I thought she was a gift from God. I smiled, shut the door, and found my grandmother to ask who this girl was. She understood, smiled, and simply said, "She's your cousin Cheryl. Don't get too excited."
I then suddenly remembered having a cousin Cheryl and joined her in a game of Nintendo.
Damn....

This is worldwide and appears to be from 1999
It says nothing about your brother or sister which is still legit in Tennessee today.

I mean, I know we all laugh about it but scientifically there is negligible risk from cousin marriage and it was the norm in most of the world for most of human existence.
Everyone was related somehow
