94 • LSU currently sits at 94 scholarships.
+3 • They are predicted to take players from the transfer portal at QB, WR, and DB.
-3 • Brian Thomas, Malik Nabers, and Greg Brooks are not expected to be back next season.
That probably means that at least 9 other players listed on the following Depth Chart will not be on the team next season.

Updated to reflect participation as indicated in the LSU Game Notes prior to the Texas A&M game.

I think you’ll see some more o linemen transfer (martinez, kimo) or declare for draft (Delly, Turner). Also may see some more non impact d linemen (West, Hill) transfer. Also Burns won’t be back. Wr and db room will also see some attrition. Numbers will work themselves out.

Going to have to have a whole different offensive approach next year.. lean on the run to set up vertical play action.

I just hope Lacy and Sampson are married to Jugs machines all off-season.

This year’s College Football Transfer Portal started Monday, Dec. 4, 2023 and goes until Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

I’m sure, Kelly and staff will adjust what’s needed.

I like how the LB room has added some quality depth. As Kelly preaches, now to develop them. Good job on the layout of the roster.

I wouldn't be surprised if Burns, Wingo or Smith, Ibieta, and Langlois aren't on the team next year.

Does this mean we're going to have to stop using the argument that we're still trying to get back to a full roster after the O debacle?

Damnit, I liked that argument.

There is no telling how their injury recovery is going. When we saw Armoni Goodwin plagued by injuries during his career, he ultimately ended up in the portal. People don't just fall behind in the pecking order after a missed season; sometimes--as in the case of Todd Harris--they just never return to the player they used to be.

Last year the pecking order was as follows.
Mekhi Wingo
Maason Smith
Jordan Jefferson
Jacobian Guillory
Jalen Lee (7 games)
Tygee Hill (5 games)
Fitzgerald West (2 games)
Preston Hickey (2 games)
Bryce Langston (1 game)
* Participation prior to the TAMU game

Looking at that, I’m guessing LSU is looking for 5-10 in the portal depending on who enters the draft or transfers out. I see it more like this, as far as what LSU wants from the transfer portal:

Safety/ Nickel- ( 2 )
DT - 1-3
Receiver - 1-2
Corner 1-2
QB-1
RB-1

I’d like to see 2 safeties, two defensive lineman, 2 receivers/return guys, 1 corner, 1 quarterback which is 8 at a minimum. I think we are fine at RB and would default to the defensive side of the ball unless the player is a true difference maker.

Well with 94 scholarships, I hope not. It’s hard to understand the point of this thread, especially in the transfer portal era.

West should've been left at C, he's not athletic enough for Defense
