Only place I go that has them is CVS. The two grocery stores I go to don't have self check out.

I love them. So much easier and I avoid waiting in lines. Places like Dollar Tree that don’t have them are annoying. People saying they take jobs are ridiculous, an unemployed person can walk into any restaurant or store in the country and get a job in this economy, it helps offset chronic understaffing from labor shortages.

I like them. Buy four steaks, scan one, etc.

One of my big local groceries went to sort of an island system with the self-checkouts instead of single lanes and it has made things really efficient.

I like them. They offer somewhere around a 20% discount on an entire purchase if used correctly.

I'll do two bags of groceries at self checkout. Anything more, especially getting drinks, I'll go to the cashier.

They're great except for the people that sit at them for a year and a half scanning two buggies full of groceries.

Self checkouts in many grocery stores aren’t really designed to use with entire carts, but after a certain time these are the only check outs some grocery stores have open now.

They are great when i only have a few things. We do most of our shopping at WalMart and use scan and go offered with from Walmart+ so we can just scan once at the checkout and off we go.

They do take jobs.

If they are well designed, they are great. If it is like the ones at Brookshire's, which contain a lot of anti-theft protocols, they can be obnoxious. Our country DG Market has a fantastic system ... the fastest I've ever seen.

I hate that old time (e.g. Brookshire's) command "unauthorized item in bagging area" (means the weight is off) or the one where you've removed items post-sale to make room. You have to wait for someone to come over.

Publix by my house installed them and no one is monitoring the alcohol purchases

Bought a case of beer before the Georgia Tech game last week and it told me to wait for an associate to ID me, and then cleared itself away without anyone coming over or even looking my way.

Would have loved to have had that in HS.

I almost always use self check out. It's quick and convenient, and I don't have to deal with any employees. The two instances I won't use self-check out:

1) If I have a shite load of items in the basket
2) If I'm buying alcohol. Every time I do they need an employee to put in the info and it normally takes a while for someone to do so.

If I have a few items they are great. If I have a full basket I go to the normal checkouts.

I’m fine with them if a store doesn’t totally rely on them. Unfortunately, I had to go into a Wal-Mart recently and they only had 1 regular line open. The rest was self check-out and they were line up 20 people deep.

Self check-out is great for a quick checkout option, and I utilize them for that purpose, but they shouldn’t replace regular check-out lanes for people who have a full cart of groceries.

I go with the shortest line. I don't care whether it's self checkout or not.

Yep. Small cart, self checkout. Large cart, full service.
