I'm good with them if they're used for the purpose for which they were intended, which is to replace the express checkout lines. When people have a whole shopping cart full of crap and they're trying to use them it is really annoying. There's not even room there for all of their crap after they scan and bag it. Why the hell would anyone think it would be faster for them to use it in that case, when they could be piling all their shite on the belt while they have another person scanning and another person bagging?

I like it at CVS and Walgreens. The girl at the counter is better off not knowing.

Thing I love about Wal Mart is you can scan all your items while you are shopping and than all you have to do is bag them when you get up there
It's actually kind of nice

I think you should have to pass a competency test before you can use one.

At first they were great because only folks with a few items and were in a hurry had the courage to try them out.

Now, mouth breathing slapdicks are fumbling around for 10 minutes trying to ring up 40 items.

It's one of many sources of my hatred of the great unwashed.

i use them when i have 1 or 2 items and the regular lines are backed up.

full buggy i go to the regular check out. i actually like the interaction with the person checking you out. However i will admit more and more frequently that person is either as engaging as a wet noodle or a down right prick. I just smile and be nice regardless, its a shitty job and they dont need me making it shittier.

I'm fine with them for a few items but they suck if you have a lot.

It's BS about killing jobs and payroll taxes, at least here. There are 2 workers for every 6 self-checkouts here. That makes 8 people working.
Do you think Wal Mart would have 8 regular check outs open? Hell no they wouldn't. So there are more people working than if they weren't there.

Plus, I value my and my family's time. I'll scan my 2 or 3 items, and get out, while you wait in the lines of 2 open checkouts, each with 6 or 7 people ahead of you with full baskets. Have fun spending 30 or 45 minutes in line.

I’m a champ at the grocery self checkout.

I buy a little over 200 a week for the family.
I bring my own bags, I’m fast as hell. I know how I like to bag my items.

Screw waiting in a long arse line with all the other sods.

Plus I rock my earbuds while I’m there. I’m not there to converse

I don't find they save any time at all unless there are just a few people in the lines or at the kiosks.

I prefer not having to fumble around checking myself out or waiting on the people who have carts full and are moving at a glacial pace.

I actually thought about this yesterday how I pass up a walmart and go to a different grocery store just because the checkouts are always packed with people.

I would use them in exchange for a discount.

Otherwise, F them.

Beats waiting in line at the only two open registers. Have not been in a Walmart in a couple of years, but found it odd that they have like 20 registers up front and only five or fewer manned.

I hate them with the fire of a million burning suns. But I don't go to a store often enough where it is an issue (grocery - Publix for the win).

Target near me has 26 registers. When we went recently on a Saturday morning they had 2 open and everyone else was being funneled through self checkout.
