In the market for a tonneau cover. After reaching out to some fellow friends, it was a mixed bag but the verdict seems to be the following:

1. Soft Top; roll up style
2. Hard Top; quad fold
3. No cover at all
4. Soft Top; trifold

Curious to see what others have. A few people I've talked to say that if you're not getting a hard top then it's pointless to get one. Which to an extent I do agree, the soft tops are easily broken into and would seem to wear much faster (leak etc). For the price point; I can buy 4 soft tops over the life of the truck before I sniff the price of the hard tops though.

Right now, I'm looking at the Gator ETX Soft top roll up or the Tyger T1 Soft Roll up. Both have good reviews and claim to be water "proof".

Any other brand specific you use?

I have a Truxedo soft roll up. It's 2 years old and still looks new. I get the argument about stuff being stolen but it's only there to stop an honest thief. If somebody really wants in they'll get in to the hard covers as well.

It claims to be waterproof but there is still a lil bit that gets in at the tailgate. I like that it's completely out of the way when rolled up.

I have Tyger running boards and they've been solid.

I've had a Gator Cover retractable hard cover for 2 years and happy with it. Not 100% waterproof, but good enough and I can lock stuff in it out of sight. Someone can get in it if they really want, but not sure they would unless they are sure it's worth the effort.

I recently bought a Tyger tri fold off Amazon. I like it. It's obviously nothing fancy, but it does what it's supposed to and easy to install and take off. It isn't 100% waterproof, but I've failed to see any major leaks. I don't know how long it will last, but it seems to be well made.

I looked into a nice diamondback but at $2k and I couldn’t justify it. I figured that my rifles and other crap are really only in my vehicle when I’m driving and do not live in there. I figured if I’m on the road and stop, it’s only for 20-30 minutes for eating, even then I’m watching the truck for most of that.

I grabbed a gator tri-fold soft cover and while not 100% waterproof, it’s damn close. I keep my suitcase, saws and rifles in there with no real concern. It’s only by the tailgate and only in an absolute down pour. I paid $250 for the cover I think. It’s easy to take off, I really overthought the whole thing. I’ll grab another gator when I need to.

I've got the Gator SFX Tri Fold on my '23 f150 and it's been great. I drove through a torrential downpour coming back from the beach and everything inside stayed dry.

For me, the easy on and off was a huge bonus. It can be installed/Uninstalled in a matter of a few minutes.

I never wanted one, but bought a used truck with one on it. It’s a soft top and I love it. My tailgate locks, so one needs to cut the top open to break into it.

I just purchased my 3rd Bakflip this week for a new truck.

This go-round I seriously considered the roll up style, but what I like about the tri-fold is that I can open up one panel or 2 if something is sticking out above the side rails. The roll-up style is either all the way open or closed.

No matter what you choose, you will wonder how you ever survived without a bed cover. They are a total game changer. You basically turn your truck into a Tahoe with more storage, but yet it is still a pickup.

I've had a Retrax Powertrax since 2014. It is expensive but I have no regrets.

I bought a bought an undercover ultra flex in 2017 for my tundra and it’s been rock solid. The rubber is starting to show fading at 6 years old but still seems good.

I have had the folding hard top before. As for my truck now I want to get a black metal cover of some kind, preferably electronically powered to roll up.

Had a soft roll-up on our 2002 F-150 for at least 10yrs. Bought it used in 2009 and it already had the cover on it. I believe it was a Truxedo model. It still looked good.

Just installed a Truxedo Lo-Pro on our 2013. Have to adjust it a little yet.

Both let some water in but met my needs.

I had a Lomax tri fold on my last truck and I'm probably going with that one again on my current truck.

Undercover Armor Flex was the best in its price class when I went through this process myself a few years ago. It's Line-X coated on both sides, panels are very heavy duty polymer instead of aluminum, so no dents, it's about as waterproof as I can ask for a tri-fold to be, secure locking mechanism for each panel.

For any cover you order I highly recommend TonneauCovered.com. You have to call them to get a price and place an order. They beat ANY price I could find by a few hundred bucks. Shipped to my house 2-3 days after completing the purchase. I shite you not.

I put an electric retrax on my last work truck in 2016 and it is still going strong on it. I put the same one on my new work truck I liked it so much. Once you go to that one, it's really hard to go back. It's expensive as hell, but its the best cover I've ever seen. Had roll n lock before that and it was a pain in the arse.

I am putting a Lomax tri-fold on my son's truck for Christmas. The guy I am getting it from told me he recommends it over the Bak Flip because the Lo Max does not require you to install drain lines, which the holes for would have to be drilled in bed the Tacoma. He also said he just likes it better than the Bak Flip overall due to less interference with the factory bed rails.
