This tradition should have never changed. Who cares about A&M.

Can we all agree on that?

Nope. It’s not going to happen.

Arky will continue ending their season with Missouri.

LSU will be playing, most likely OU, but that’s not really determined yet.

Nothing like playing at war memorial stadium at 11am on the Friday after thanksgiving when it’s colder than a whore’s heart.

How do y’all enjoy playing Arkansas over Texas A&M

8&4 is a cult non-rivalry that was manufactured. With Ar-Kansas, at least it's a game with some history that I can hang around my arkansas in laws on thanksgiving and watch a game relevant to all of us. That's actually something of a tradition.

History is about equal between the two going way back. Anyone who grew up watching LSU in the 80s probably considers A&M at least as much of one as Ark.

Is Ga going to continue playing Ga Tech? If so, bring back the Wave and screw all these other goofy contrivances.

Well, you can argue that it’s definitely more of a rivalry than LSU vs A&M

really?

look on this board and see how many threads are about A&M (not even counting the Jimbo fired threads) vs how many are about Arky.

Arkansas might as well be Mississippi State.
yeah its a "rivalry" in the sense that we play every year. But that game has never moved the needle for LSU fans.

Yeah, I think aTm is more of a natural rivalry. BR v. Houston. I grew up in the ‘80’s and lived in TX for a decade, so have my own biases.

so you're young.

SEC expanding to let Arkansas (and USCe) in killed the LSU vs A&M rivalry.

LSU played A&M (voluntarily, not manufactured) every year from 1960-1975 and then again from 1986-1995

LSU never voluntarily played Arkansas during that stretch.
1 bowl game in the 60's, then forced into a "rivalry" with conference expansion.

so if you're keeping count:
that's 26 times LSU and A&M chose to play against each other
and ZERO times LSU and Arkansas played each other without being told they were rivals.

so which one is "manufactured" again?

If it were up to me would never play Arkansas period. They hate us and we don’t know they exist. I grew up with aTm being our home opener. I loathingly despise these surrender flag waving yell people. I hate em. I want to beat them. If aTm were playing the China National team, I’d learn “Frick You A&M” in Chinese.

But here’s the thing. Since Tulane became irrelevant years ago, that rivalry ended. Those used to be bloodbaths with bench clearing brawls. Personally, I’d rather see us play them than some sad sack State that thinks woo pig sooooie is something to be proud of.

The SEC obviously wants us to be in the Southwestern Conference and because if that, I hate them for that too.

Texas?
Texas aTm?
Oklahoma?
Missouri?
Arkansas?

Let those bastards play each other. Let us charter members actually play SEC schools.

Frick das boot, frick all our rivalries not named Tulane or Bama, and Frick aTm!

A lot of anger but I tend to agree.

100% agree. LSU shouldn’t be in the Big12 even if the defense is playing like it.

Based on the responses, I'd say you are in the minority about that. I loved it. Before I got season tickets, it was our family's go-to game when it was at Tiger Stadium.

They’re* and the tv networks aren’t going to give that weekend up. The red river shootout will always be played at the state fair, it’s the way it will always be, captain cheese.

There is however some nice beef developing between LSU and A&M, which is why it’s the better rivalry. I think the insistence by a loud group of fans that it absolutely isn’t a rivalry is a byproduct of that.

5 posts speaking negatively about the Arky “rivalry”
2 posts wanting to keep that “rivalry”

that’s not even counting the posts that would rather play Tulane.

the minority is definitely the Arkansas side.

A&M is a legit rival that we played a lot prior to the 2000s LINK. The rivalry died but I was happy to see it brought back. My dad / grandpa had memories of this rivalry. There was no other out of conference opponent that we played as often. And given their proximity the rivalry makes sense.

vs. aTm = 35-23-3 (61 games) +/-350 miles apart.
Fist game 1899

vs. Arky = 43-23-2 (68 games) +/-550 mile apart.
First game 1901

I came up with aTm being more of a rival and still feel that way. Arky was, and is, a forced rivalry that was pushed upon us when they joined the SEC in 1991. Take the 32 years of them being in the SEC out (compaired to aTm joining 11 years ago) and and you'll see aTm was a more natural rival. At least in my book.

But as someone else mentioned...Bring back Tulane if you want, you know, an actual traditional rival. lol
