My friends in the restaurant business have related nightmares dealing with City Hall bureaucracy getting permits to build and operate. There's always another little surprise to overcome, sometimes from City Council members.
New Orleans is not what could be called a business friendly city.
Btw Mrs. Benson, three helpful hints for you in future.

You can be assholes or make mediocre beer. You can't be assholes that make mediocre beer. Courtyards dude is a complete dick online, but he makes good beer.

Faubourg was struggling to cope with a series of power outages, big water charges from the Sewerage & Water Board and a half-million-dollar tax bill.
Should have moved to the Northshore.

Benson is an idiot who got her hands on money that she didn't make
She makes bad decisions
Getting rid of Dixie was a bad decision.

He's woke, but I guess it works for him. He won't see any business from me.

This 100%, but she might have had some success had she not gone all artsy fartsy and picked a name that the average non-New Orlenian actually knew how to pronounce.

The keys here are
-Giant $30 million facility has a $540k annual property tax bill. That is what it is. Thats the cost of having so much equipment, inventory, and property. Probably only need a fraction of that, like 10% for how much they produce.
-S&WB $400k annual cost for water and sewer which is outrageous for a business that isnt producing very much.
-Facility was a complete pain in the arse with robberies, illegal dumping, and shootings on their property that the city wasn't willing to stop.
All of this is what you get when you try to invest and build a business in NOLA.

Much like the city has only gotten worse since the statues came down, as I foretold.
I thought the statues were going to start cleaning up the city?

Combine that with a name change that pissed off the only people who actually drink it and this was doomed.
The change in branding was an awful decision. Their logo and ads look too much like Starbucks. There is nothing identifiable about “Faubourg.” It isn’t catchy or memorable, and it sounds like every other German wannabe beer brand. They should have kept the Dixie name.

Man I tried to like that stuff. Take away all the politics and marketing and stuff, and you still had undrinkable swill.

I bought a 6er of Dixie on a lark once here in Lexington. Don't know why it was on our shelves all the way up here. That beer tastes like horse piss.

I worked on a project for several months in Belgium in the mid-1990’s. We were at one of our usual restaurants and asked the owner if he had any unique beers since we had tried most brands during our stay. He opened a small refrigerator under the bar and said that’s where he keeps his imports. There was a 6 pack of Dixie cans in there. Imagine using Dixie to form an opinion on American beers.

I can't remember the last time I bought a six pack, if ever, but I would occasionally get one at a bar or a poboy joint for similar reasons, just cause it felt "right" sometimes to do so.
The whole name and label change killed any reason to ever even think about doing so.
The entire goofy deal was a giant leap beyond simply 'go woke, go broke.' I couldn't imagine a more boneheaded move on a business level, if I tried
Wonder how many MBA's came up with the idea and ran the company...

Dixie was shite beer But I occasionally bought a 6er of bottles for nostalgia purposes
I bought Dixie on Oct 29th each year. The day the old man passed, and that is what he drank. However, there is no way he would have continued to buy it when they changed the name.
Having said that, NOLA gonna NOLA.

Gayle Benson, was sold on this idea to flush money down the sewer in New Orleans East.
All she had to do was buy the Dixie beer brand an iconic beer that at one time was based in New Orleans.
Then change the name which takes away from the value of Dixie beer. We
all know the taste of Dixie beer, is not why people drank this stuff.
Build a huge place in New Orleans East in a place that looks worse than some war zones to brew and sell beer.
Oooh, someone was a really great salesperson on this idea. Lol!!!!
Expect to make a profit. Lol!!

An alter with over 18,000 posts???? That's commitment there. IF so, he should be permitted to continue keeping up this charade without hindrance.

Same here. IMO based on a mix of nostalgia and something different.
Then as I’m sipping I remember why I didn’t get it much. But then I would again later.
