Had dinner there a couple of weeks ago and it’s def heading in the wrong direction. Food was decent at best and with the waitstaff…….they should consider a uniform change.

Walk ins in particular…no.
The problem is that discretionary consumer spending is changing in this world of inflation. People are going out to eat less. Waitresses are earning less in tips for the hours they work. That’s bad for Walk On’s and all of their competitors.

This is my opinion of walkons. When it first opened, I am talking about the very first location near LSU's campus, it was pretty good concept. Near campus and it was a good place to go to drink and grab something to eat. I never thought of the food to be the primary reason to go there. You went there to watch games, drink and they served food if you wanted something to eat.. If that makes sense.
There has never been anything on the menu that was "oh I love the ______ at Walkons". I thought of it as a good place to be around a college campus. I don't know if their menu adapts to the location, but it doesn't surprise to hear of locations closing. Unless its in an area where its the only option, I don't understand picking to go eat there over other places.
I'd rather go eat at Chimes than Walkons. Past times has better food, hell I can name quite a few places with better food in Baton Rouge, but if you want to go watch games while eating its a great place to go.

My company has an office in Tyler. I cover that office sometimes. I was excited to try the walkons there. The first time I go I sit at the bar and hear the bartender talking with a customer about picking up drugs from New York. I thought about contacting Brandon but just said frick it.

I think they have a problem with the consistent quality of food across restaurants. What was great in Baton Rouge was not great in West Texas.

As long as they continue to have a very good burger, decent poboy, and some cute waitresses, they will be fine.
If people start going in the and some dude serves them a mediocre burger they are done.
They need to stop expanding tho.

Could it be something as simple as the economy?
Food prices have gotten out of hand and the cost to keep employees happy and content to stay has gone so high that restaurants sometimes sacrifice food quality to squeeze a little profit.
Another area that can affect business is access to working capital, interest rates rising in the last year could catch a business off guard if they depend on borrowing to cover expenses during a slow month or major equipment failure.
Insurance costs are also increasing, making it difficult to find a profit.
Also, sometimes companies expand in places they shouldn’t or the market gets saturated with the same type of restaurant.

I can walk in, order a rare cheeseburger with fries, drink six Bud-heavys and go home with a sore neck because every sports bar mounts their tv`s way too high.

I had the Buffalo Gator tacos the other night, and the food was fine. Server was also really considerate and good. Pleasant experience.

I think a place like walk ons does well farther away from the coast where you can’t get gumbo/seafood/Louisiana style

The portions sure have gone down..we get take out from there and I paid extra for onion rings and got 3...literally 3 onion rings. Also got a boom boom shrimp poboy I could count the shrimp on.
They've also started burning the shite outta those monz logs.

Honestly, I never went to Walk-On’s for truly authentic food. It was good food at a fun place to watch a game.

As someone who has visibility in the food service space - I own a QSR and lend to the food service industry, amongst others - it seems most restaurants have been struggling.
Labor has been a major problem for 2+ years now and continues to be. Can’t find it and it costs more.
Im sure it’s no surprise to any of you but cost of goods/food have been skyrocketing for about two years.
Operators don’t want to raise their prices. Strategy on pricing varies by size of the operation. Everybody seems to be late on increases. It can really hurt the small guys immediately. The big guys can absorb some loss.
My recommendation if you’re looking to open a food business - open it as close to a high school as you can. People are used to going to that general area and lots of cheap labor from many kids who want play jobs and a few kids who actually want/need a job.

And leads to cutting popular menu items that are hard to supply quality ingredients all over. Such as the Gator wrap, and some seafood items.
So it ends up another shitty sports bar franchise with wings, burgers, fried fish and shrimp.
